Mansfield Sentenced to Ten Years in Penitentiary
In Caroline County Circuit Court Elmer Mansfield pleaded guilty to second degree murder in the William Edge case and received a ten year sentence in the Maryland Penitentiary. The arraignment also set a separate trial for two auto accident suits against Carlton Legg and Martha M Legg. Marritt Simms was convicted of larceny and ordered to two years at the Maryland State Reformatory for Men. Townsend was fined ten dollars and costs for a traffic violation.

Miss May Gelletly Artist Dies After Brief Illness
Baltimore artist Miss May Gelletly, 62, who exhibited in the United States and France, died Sunday morning after a brief illness. Born in Baltimore, she studied at the Maryland Institute of Art and Design, specialized in miniatures, and contributed a Chart of Civilizations. Survived by two sisters and two brothers, funeral services were held Tuesday followed by cremation.

Sudlersville Wins Bi-State Title in Final Playoff
Sudlersville swept Millington 8 to 2 to clinch the Bi-State final honors after winning 3 to 2 the prior Sunday. Walt Phuniner outpitched LaSage as Sudlersville rolled two runs in the second and four in the third, adding more late. Matllileau, Werner and Plummer each had two hits for Sudlersville while Wallace led Millington with three. Plans are under way for a girls town basketball team for the third straight year. At the town fans meeting Tuesday October etc the team will follow the Bobcats schedule. Coached by Edvanda Welch and managed by Josephine Pine the squad aims to beat last year’s 20 6 record. Several last year players return with new additions from the 38 Eastern Shore Championship squad. An important meeting for all interested players is set for Wednesday October 20 at 7 30 in Room 20 Caroline High School with uniform measurements to be taken.

Alfred Smith's Body Is Brought Home
Funeral services for Alfred Smith, killed while serving in the Armed Forces after the war, were held at Grace Methodist Church in Denton. Rev. Thomas J. Turkington officiated. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Smith and left four sisters, with ties to Ridgely and Denton. A Caroline High School graduate from the class of 1941, he went overseas December 11, 1914, after training in Jacksonville, Florida, and at the McCormick Commandeering School in Chicago.
