Auto Inspection Tightened In Save A Life Campaign
Denton Journal reports the Save-A-Life Campaign runs Oct 15 to Nov 30 with four new inspection items: tires, windshield glass, muffler, and operating license. Commissioner E Austin Baughman says extending checks aims for safer streets and cites dangers of worn tires cracked glass and noisy mufflers. Drivers with expired or suspended licenses will be barred from operating.

Pine Cone Harvest Comes Next
The State Forestry Department will harvest 300 bushels of loblolly and 50 bushels of shortleaf cones, to be processed at the State Nursery in College Park. Seed will be stored over winter, planted in spring, and seedlings offered to landowners for forest and windbreaks. Cones should be gathered before opening, mainly where timber cutting occurs, with 40 cents per bushel paid.
