Hallowe'en Parade At Greensboro

The Greensboro Lions Club will stage a Halloween parade on Monday October 31 weather permitting led by Maestro Rudolph Rinner with dancing on Main Street and free apples and cider for children. Mayor R. H. Wright chairs the committee planning new features and outside entries.

Tuberculosis Committee Meets at Brick Hotel Denton

The Tuberculosis Committee of the Caroline County Health Association met at the Brick Hotel in Denton on September 29. Representatives from Marydel Greensboro Ridgely Preston Federalsburg Denton and others attended along with ministers and medical and legal groups. Ruth K. Graham urged action as press agents for health and tuberculosis prevention. A constitution and by laws committee was planned. The group will assist with Christmas seal sales and mobile X ray clinics scheduled for November 8–14 and December 5–8.

B and P Women's Club Holds Meeting and Plans Week

The Caroline County Business and Professional Women's Club met at president Miss Rachel Collison’s home on September 28 1949 with good attendance. Plans for Business Women's Week in October were discussed and posters ordered. A social hour followed with Mrs Wilbur Stafford and Miss Kathleen Brubaker honored with a shower. The Baltimore Bullets will face the Denton National Guard Bobcats on October 19 at 2 30 PM in the Denton Armory.

Grand Jury in Caroline County Maryland calls for courthouse and jail improvements. A ceremony unveiled the late Judge J Owen Knotts portrait painted by Marie Marshall Lewes and accepted by Chief Judge William Horney. Foreman V Edwin Unger and secretary Ernest Smith led a detailed report urging jail maintenance funding, courthouse repairs including stairway doorway paint and hall redecorating, stricter beer sale rules to minors, and possible concurrent magistrate jurisdiction for non support cases.

Caroline Men To Attend Farm Bureau Insurance School

Eastern Shore area and Delaware agents attend a two day liability insurance school at Tidewater Inn Easton on October 10 and 11. Six Caroline County men will represent Denton Greensboro Federalsburg and Henderson with instructors from the Home Office and Maryland office assisting. The Farm Bureau group includes three companies with home offices in Columbus Ohio serving over a million policyholders across twelve states and DC.

Deaths Mrs Carlilie Roe of Federalsburg dies at 78

Mrs. Carlilie Roe widow of Edward Roe died in Memorial Hospital Easton on Tuesday morning October 4 after months of ill health. She was born in Caroline County 78 years ago to John Edward Nichols and Henrietta Smith Nichols and lived in Federalsburg before moving.

Greaves Retires As C and P Manager in Denton

Francis Asbury Greaves, long time manager of the C and P Telephone Co. in Denton, retires after more than 35 years with the Bell System. His career began in 1902 in Centreville and spanned moves through Dover, Hillsboro, Salisbury, and finally Denton since 1919. A dinner at the Brick Hotel honored him on September 30 1949 with a traveling bag and certificate.

Mills appointed manager of Denton C and P office

William O Mills has been named Manager of the Denton Area for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Baltimore City. A native of the Eastern Shore he joined the company in 1941, served three years in the European Theatre, and is married with a two year old daughter. He currently lives in Preston, is secretary of the Lions Club and Fire Company, and will move to Denton soon.

Large Hog Show Entry Demand Grows at Centreville

A large number of fat hogs is expected at the Annual Fall 4-H and F.F.A. Fat Hog Show on October 18 at Queen Anne's County 4-H Club Park near Centreville. Conference WSCS Delegation Returns From Seminar

Twelve members of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of Peninsula Methodist Conference returned from a social relations seminar at 150 Fifth Avenue New York. They spent two days at United Nations sessions at Lake Success hearing a commission of the Economic and Social Council debate amending Article 1 on prostitution control.
