Captain Nelson S. Wood, 24, of Denton, Texas, piloted Betsy Ann a B24 Liberator to his 50th combat mission over Axis territory. He described Ploesti runs and a near crash returning from Alessandria, Italy, with an emergency Corsica landing. He enlisted February 2 1940 after farming in Maryland. Mrs Butler of Preston was notified that her son Raymond B. Butler was wounded in action in Europe.

William Harvey Fleming, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dillon Fleming of Goldsboro Maryland, joined the armed forces in October 1942. After basic training at Camp Blanding he sailed to England last February and is now somewhere in France or Holland. In a September 19 letter from Somewhere in Holland he writes he is traveling through Europe and hopes to be in another country soon. He asks for cigarettes but says he can eat well and has become a chow hound.

District Governor Shank to Visit Denton Rotary Club
John Jay Shank of Waynesboro Pa governor of Rotary International district 180 will visit the Denton Rotary Club at its next meeting October 10. Shank, director of Wayne Laboratories, was elected district governor in 1944 and will advise officers on club administration and Rotary Service. Rotary International oversees about 5200 clubs with 250000 members in 50 countries. Since July 1 1943, 150 new clubs have formed in 13 American countries plus many others worldwide despite the war.
