Fiftieth Anniversary Celebrated by Knotts Family
Mrs Amos Wyatt of Muarydel and Miss Dorothy Knotts hosted an open house for Mr and Mrs Gurney Knotts at Cherry Hill on October 20 from 2 to 5 pm. Knotts married in Antioch Methodist Church Templeville on October 18, 1896. Mrs Knotts formerly Hattie Davis of Ingleside. All wedding party alive except late usher Bennett Emory of Cheswold. Relatives from NY NJ PA DE and MD wished them happiness. Knotts received flowers gifts and a $100 purse. Refreshments and anniversary cake were served. Helpers included Viola Kipe Mary Walls Myrtle Adamson Frances McCarthy Nell Knotts Kathleen Moore Doris Ann Wyatt and others.

The Mar-Del Basketball League will open the last week in December with eight franchises: Milford Cardinals Felton Vets Dover Legionnaires Smyrna Independents Middletown AC Harrington Legionnaires Denton Legionnaires and Cecilion Drakes. Pat Knight was elected president and Dec Baker secretary treasurer at a Dover meeting. The board includes Art Gunning Robert George Jack Martin Lewis Roushey Tom Wright Ronald Grier Kenneth Dickey and Frank O Neal. The schedule features 28 games with twice weekly play, home and away. Caroline Unit No. 29 American Legion Auxiliary held its November 14 meeting at the Armory in Denton to launch the year’s membership drive. Chairman Mrs. W A Stewart Wright and committee members plan to reach Maryland’s 1947 quota of 10,000 with the statewide slogan Two Auxiliary members for Each Legionaire. The group urges wives mothers sisters and daughters of Legion members to join and support veteran families and disadvantaged children. next meeting is the second Thursday in December at the Armory.

Philip S. Morgan president of the Maryland Tuberculosis Association announced the 40th annual Christmas Seal Sale begins Monday November 25 1946 across Maryland. He said funds support mass X ray surveys case finding X raying tuberculin testing medical research health education and Negro program to build a community free of tuberculosis. He touted the new X ray machine as a quick Seeing Eye in early detection and urged everyone to invest now for future health of home and community.
