Japanese Beetle Threat Highlighted by Agriculture Bureau
Roughly a third of Americans live in states where the Japanese beetle is a serious pest. Quarantine slows its spread but it will continue until more people encounter it. The grub injures grass roots while adults feed on flowers trees and shrubs. Control uses chemicals and milky disease bacteria that infect grub bodies and release spores in soil. Spore dust, with 200 million spores per teaspoonful, protects turf after a few seasons though it does not affect adult beetles directly.
