Campaign Chair Howard Eley announced 35 percent of a 44 000 goal and 17 525 in advance subscriptions including 7 150 from all 18 hospital directors. Governor Theodore R McKeldin spoke urging support as board and corporate gifts set the tone for fundraising and free care needs with a target date of November 21 and a mid campaign review November 15 breakfast meeting.

Dr. Wilbur Devilbiss, president of Salisbury State Teachers' College, told the Denton Community Club that by 1970 college enrollments could double and public funds may be required for expansion. He noted junior colleges already exist in Montgomery, Washington, and Baltimore counties under local boards, and urged consideration of statewide junior colleges. He praised accessible reading materials and warned independent colleges may not expand due to endowments. Delegates to the Eastern Shore District federation meeting were appointed at the club’s business session.

Smithville Pond to get new spillway this December
Smithville Pond renowned as a fishing spot will receive a tumbling spillway. Inland Fish and Game Commission officials schedule November 16 and 17 to remove fish for restocking while the pond dries. The spillway construction will render the existing dam non adjustable and the project is planned with Marshyhope Fish and Game Protective Association officers and board.
