Contract Let For Choptank Dredging
The Baltimore District of the U S Army Corps of Engineers awarded Steen Contracting Corporation of Norfolk Virginia a 54736 50 contract for maintenance dredging of federal projects in the Chesapeake Bay area. Dredging will occur at Twitch Cove Big Thoroughfare River Smith Island Upper Thoroughfare Deals Island Somerset County and Choptank River. Work includes restoring channel dimensions to allow safe tanker passage and supports seafood shipping and Tidewater Fisheries oyster shell distribution. Authorized by Rivers and Harbors Acts of 1930 1937 and 1938.

Greensboro Hallowe'en Parade A Big Community Triumph
Mr. Thomas J. Wright thanks participants in Greensboro Lions Club event. About 200 parade entries and an estimated 2500 spectators attended. The downtown windows featured Halloween motifs and 35 cash prizes were awarded for costumes. The school band led the parade and a street dance ended the evening with a crowded floor. No property damage reported, marking the program as a success.

Seaford Engineer Dies in Highway Mishap
Charles William Barnes 28 a DuPont nylon plant electrical engineer died in an automobile crash near the Delaware border while traveling toward Denton. His brother Lee Boyd Barnes 23 was seriously injured and hospitalized in Easton. The Air Force lieutenant, visiting with his mother, was killed when the station wagon veered off the road and crashed into trees.

Ridgely Farmer Loses Hand In Accident
Winfield Wright, 28, a Ridgely area farmer, lost his right hand when it was caught in a new combine mechanism. He underwent amputation at Easton Memorial Hospital. Son of Lawrence Wright of Tyler Farm on the Choptank River, he leaves a wife and small son. his condition was reported fair.

Firemen Supper Supports Den ton Volunteer Fire Co
A Denton Volunteer Fire Co and its Auxiliary hosted a large supper on October 23 with 639 attendees. Donations included 200 chickens 75 pounds of sugar and 15 cases of canned goods plus cash totaling 250 dollars. A theater party followed and an estimated 80 dollars from food sales. Final proceeds exceed 850 dollars for firefighter use.

Hallowe'en Festivities At Armory Delight Denton Crowd
The Denton Chamber of Commerce and the Denton Volunteer Fire Company hosted a Halloween party at the Armory drawing about 500 children and adults after a parade from the Fire House. The hall was seasonally decorated and over 25 costume entrants in various age groups won awards for original, funniest, and prettiest outfits. outstanding masqueraders earned prizes, with continued coverage noted on page 6.

Owner Mr. Mellits says opening will be in spring with RCA High Fidelity sound and car speakers, plus top projection gear.
