National Service Life Insurance Reopens for Veterans
Maryland Legion reports the American Legion is preparing to assist the V A with next May's flood of applications. Wilbur Van Sant Jr says over three million veterans with service connected disabilities and others who have not yet applied may now be eligible to buy up to ten thousand dollars in National Service Life Insurance.

Veterans GI life insurance reopening details and rules
The new law allows applications from May 1 1965 to May 3 1966 for permanent GI insurance. VA will mail details to veterans receiving monthly compensation. service connected veterans not drawing compensation must apply after April 1 1965. Active duty personnel and certain Philippine veterans are not eligible. Examinations costs borne by applicants. Eligibility requires NSLI eligibility between Oct 8 1940 and Jan 1 1957 and current coverage under $10,000 or none. Three groups define health and non health based eligibility with premiums higher for some groups. Conversion options exist from WWII or Korean term policies to a modified life plan with favorable non dividend rates but a 50 percent face value reduction at age 65, recoverable later with ordinary life insurance. The American Legion urges three million term policy holders to consider conversion.
