Thomas H Everngam Dies At Farm Home

Funeral services for Thomas Horsey Everngam 86 farmer former Maryland legislator were held at Concord Methodist Church with Rev. P R Schauer and Rev Lawrence E Wimbrow officiating. Burial followed in Concord cemetery. Survived by wife Sidney two children Irwin F Everngam and Mrs Ralph D Finkbinder, a sister and three grandchildren including K Thomas Everngam assistant Maryland attorney general. Six nephews served as pallbearers.

Rural Women's Short Course Opens At Maryland June 17

The twentieth annual Rural Women's Short Course at the University of Maryland opens June 17 with 1200 women from all counties expected. The program runs through June 21 featuring lectures, classes, and assembly programs under the theme One World. Noted speakers include Walter H. Judd, Elizabeth Sweeney, and Ernestine Becker McCollum. Guest Speaker At Pilgrim Holiness Church May 26

Rev. Orval L. Wuffman, pastor of United Brethren Church Corydon Indiana, will be guest speaker at Pilgrim Holiness Church Denton Sunday evening May 26 at 7 30 p.m. A Union Bible Seminary graduate and former Methodist minister, he is a Prohibition Party candidate for Clerk of the Indiana Supreme Court. He is described as a strong advocate for prohibition and a hopeful speaker for both young and old.

Poppy Day Observance In Caroline County

Poppy Day launches in Caroline County with commemorative wear reflecting the World War I poem Flanders Fields and the tradition of honoring war dead. Replicas of red poppies have been worn since 1918, marking observances across communities in the region.

School Survey Report To Be Made Tonight

A report on Caroline County school survey findings and recommendations will be presented at Caroline High School in Denton this Friday at 8:00 p.m. Dr. W. G. Eckles and Dr. H. A. Methodists Announce SS Pastoral Changes

Fifty five pastoral changes were announced by the Peninsula Conference of the Methodist Church at its closing session in Wilmington. Districts listed include Wilmington with nine changes and Dover, Salisbury, and Easton each reporting multiple transfers. The note names district superintendents, transfers, and new pastors for numerous churches across the region.

Shad And Herring Season Ends May 26

The Tidewater Fisheries Commission says the shad and herring season in the Choptank River ends May 26. After that, catching either species is illegal. The rule, part of a statewide Tidewater Maryland law, covers waters below Pooles Island to Worton Point. Notice To Voters In Caroline County Register Strike

The Board of Supervisors of Elections in Caroline County announces under a new law that names of voters who have not voted in five years will be removed from the register. These voters will be mailed notice and may re register on regular days, the first being June 18. The Caroline High School Junior Class will present the play Almost Summer on Saturday night May 25, with Friday’s date changed due to other activities.

60 000 Voters To Be Stricken Off

Under a new election law, Caroline County and other boards must remove voters who did not participate in any primary or general elections in the previous five years. An estimated 60,000 voters statewide may be barred from voting unless they register by May 25 for the June 24 primaries.

Committee Forms To Aid In Placing Local Unemployed

In Caroline County on May 15 1946 about 215 people registered with the United States Employment Service for work. Most were farm labor or general laborers drawing up to 20 dollars weekly or less if they worked, with any earnings deducted from their unemployment credit. A local committee led by Elias W. Nuttle was formed with members from Greensboro Ridgely Federalsburg Preston and Goldsboro to coordinate employer requests through the U.S.E.S. and place registrants.
