Walter B Palmer Jr announces his candidacy for Denton town commissioner opposing incumbent Lawnace Moore. Palmer, a 21 year Denton resident and veteran awarded a Purple Heart, lists strong community ties, church service, and local business leadership as qualifications. Election is Monday May 25 between 12 and 6 pm.

Jr Sr Life Saving Classes At Camp Todd In Williston

The Caro line Chapter American Red Cross offers Senior Life Saving starting June 29 at Camp Todd Williston requiring at least 17 instructional hours and a final exam for a certificate. Junior Life Saving runs two 15 hour sessions July 13 24 and July 27 August 7 for ages 12 15. Registration to Red Cross Office Denton before June 10. May weather notes and historical dates follow.

Beauty Pageant Plans Complete For Miss Denton

Rotary Club of Denton gears up for its first big Beauty Pageant on Saturday with nine Miss Denton and twenty one Little Miss Denton contestants coached for the stage. Miss Denton 1959 will go to Laurel later this month to join Miss Delmarva XII semi finals and possibly finals at Dover if selected.

Washington Artist Will Judge Local Art Exhibit

Melvin Buckner, Washington DC artist, will judge the Denton School of Art student exhibition at the Denton Teen Center on Sunday May 24 from 3 to 6 PM. Entries are classed by age and experience, with guest artists and a Popular Award voted by attendees.

Caroline High School Chess Club Loses 5-0 at Wilmington

On Saturday evening, May 9, Caroline High School Chess Club traveled to Wilmington to face the Wilmington High School Club, the top season leader in the area. The matches were close but Wilmington won 5 to 0, with Gordon Spidle, Phil Parsons, Steve Chike, Donald English, and David Van Sant all falling to their Wilmington opponents.

Annual Poppy Sale To Be Held At Greensboro

The 1959 annual sale of Buddy Poppies will be held in Greensboro on Saturday May 23. Commander Wilson Thornton Post 7937 announced today. Funds from the sale support veteran welfare programs run under the Veterans of Foreign Wars trademarked Buddy Poppy system.

Girl Scout Court Of Awards And Fly Up Honors Held

Girl Scouts Brownies and troops, led by Miss Sally Schumacher and Mrs Kerslake, held a May 18 dinner at Denton fire hall. First Class awards went to Jean Scudder and Margaret Kerslake, with special honors to Susan Trice for cookie sales. Troop 158 Brownies received Wing titles, and Troop 197 performed the Brownie Song as members earned Membership Stars amid bird badge displays and a candlelight ceremony.

Changes In Peninsula Methodist pulpits named at Salisbury

Bishop G Bromley Oxnam announced sixty two pastoral changes at the Peninsula Annual Conference concluding in Salisbury. Dover District led with 21 changes, Wilmington District saw 15 including a district superintendent shift, Easton 14, and Salisbury 11. New appointments included a Homes for the Aged associate director post. Deacons and elders were ordained, and youth leadership urged a mission minded America amid calls to attack poverty and injustice.
