Governor Millard Tawes is renominated for a second term after sweeping the Maryland Democratic primary both in popular vote and under the unit system. The governor's statewide ticket won nominations except for the congressman at large.
On Wednesday May 9 John Lawrence Dowdy Jr 28 and Carl David Weaver 17 both of Danville Va pleaded guilty and were found guilty of stealing a boat trailer and motor belonging to Earl M Crouse The offense date was May 2 on the edge of Denton Sentencing deferred for pre sentence investigation both were committed to jail awaiting sentencing On Friday May 11 James Stephen Powell 23 of Greensboro was found guilty and fined 100 for driving under the influence by Magistrate John F Tilghman
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 29 met at the Post Home on May 9. With Memorial Day near, members urged wearing a poppy to honor veterans and fund aid for their families. Mrs. O. E. Roberts announced seven Caroline County Girls State registrants. Flowers will stay on the Memorial Tombstone in May to honor Poppy Month and Memorial Day. The group noted support for the Little League parade and Poppy Program efforts.
All persons interested are invited to view the new Caroline County Club site at an Open House on Sunday May 20 from 2 to 5 pm. Refreshments will be served. The site is on River Road between Williston and Peolicker at the upper Choptank's widest point.
Special services at Trinity Methodist Church Goldsboro honor five longtime members with a plaque noting 289 combined years of service. The oldest, Louise Milby, joined in 1903, while others include Alberta Schaube and Sallie Cole with 1904 and 1904 joins respectively.
Alan Holsinger of Ridgely 4-H Club in Greensboro won first place in the Maryland Broiler Production Contest Region 5 held May 10 at North Caroline High School in Denton. The event drew 31 contestants from Caroline Dorchester Queen Anne's and Talbot counties.
Four H Demonstration Day was held Saturday May 12 with twenty seven girls winning ribbons in home making projects. Purple ribbons went to Ann Billmeier Jennie Lee Grime Becky Fuchs Joanne Fuchs Lang Foster Melva Jean Engle Mary Johnson Paulette Trice and others representing Federalsburg Greensboro Preston and Denton clubs. District Day in Cecil County July 31 awaits champions. Red blue and white ribbons awarded in baked foods dairy foods general foods home furnishings and clothing with several competitors from Federalsburg Denton Preston and Greensboro earning top honors.
The Caroline County Board of Education awarded seven scholarships to local students. William H. Kleinwachter receives Johns Hopkins Engineering, Philip L. Meredith attends Western Maryland College, Elizabeth Jean Scudder to St Marys Seminary Jr College, Jack Edward Sealman to Maryland Institute of Art, Robert A. Stirn to Charlotte Hall School, with two St Johns College scholarships held for one month due to no qualified applicants.
The annual Memorial Day services will be held May 27 1962 at 2 30 p m at St Johnstown Methodist Church one mile east of Greenwood. James B Kilvington Jr past grand master of Masons of Delaware will be guest speaker. Greenwood Memorial Post No 7478 V F W will conduct grave side ceremonies after services in the adjoining cemetery.
Greensboro High School contestants dominated the Miss Greensboro and Little Miss Greensboro 1962 pageants held Friday May 11 at Greensboro School. Patsy Morris, daughter of Mr and Mrs Thomas R Morris, won Miss Greensboro with Charlotte Ruf and Mary Anne Uber as runners-up. Little Miss Greensboro 1962 is Marisha Lou Rostien. Gayle Ann Tibbitt was runner-up. Both winners advance to the Miss Delmarva Pageant in Harrington, Delaware, late June.
