Rotary Scholarship Awards Announced Denton Rotary names four scholars
Announcement made Tuesday evening by the Denton Rotary Club lists four scholarship recipients for the current year. Three renewals go to Charles Toth of Greensboro, Maurice Howard of Ridgely, both students at State Teachers College Salisbury, and Steve Swatik Jr of Denton studying Johns Hopkins University Baltimore. The fourth award goes to Carole Ann Koenig who plans to enter the University of Maryland in September after graduating from NCHS class of 62. Koenig was named Miss Denton at the recent beauty pageant. The club also honored 25 NCHS students for citizenship with certificates, presented by Francis Holsinger vice president elect. Recipients include students from ninth through twelfth grade with names listed per class.

Camp Todd Preparations Ramp Up at Peninsula Girl Scout Camp
Preparations are in full swing for Camp Todd near Denton under the Peninsula Girl Scout Council. Registration flows by postmark, with Susan Peterson first to apply and Mary Elizabeth Schultz second after a late entry. Troop 24 members lead, in Nature and Ocean Camping units, plus National Park Trips and music, pioneer, and folk dancing camps. A World Association Counselor from Denmark will teach folklore and crafts. Vacancies remain with programs including swimming, boating, crafts, and skills. John Hargreaves of Federalsburg received the Delmarva Distinguished Citizen Award from the Delmarva Poultry Industry Association for his 15 years of service to the region and national poultry sector. He has led as former Delmarva Association president and now chairs the Institute of American Poultry Industries board, with roles on the Poultry and Egg National Board and the National Broiler Council. The award was presented at a Salisbury dinner that capped the association’s funds drive, which raised a record 136,200.50 from 3,014 contributors.
