Mrs. Rachelle Roberts of Denton School and Mrs. Louise Neal of Federalsburg School were honored by the Caroline County Teachers Association for long service. Roberts retired after 21 years teaching with 15 in Maryland and 13 in Denton, receiving a Certificate of Appreciation and an orchid corsage. Neal, cafeteria manager for 27 years, was recognized with an orchid corsage and a silver vegetable dish. she has overseen the county lunch program for two years and helped grow it to about 135000 dollars in gross annual business.

The John J. Pershing Barracks 2649 was presented its charter Sunday by Ted Lewis of Silver Spring Maryland. Women’s Auxiliary launches with officers to be elected later. Attendees included Mrs. Ted Lewis and Roy V. R. Grogan among others from Cambridge Denton and Chestertown. A covered dish dinner followed with hymn singing led by Rev Mills.

Pine Wood Derby Held At Denton School Last Monday
The Denton Cub Pack No. 265 hosted a Pine Wood Derby in the Denton School auditorium on May 21. Twenty seven Cubs entered, with winners Bill Behrke first, Donald Cooper second, and Dennis Stafford third. The top four advance to the district race June 2 at 3:30 PM at Easton VFW Home on Glebe Road.

Greensboro School To Start A Kindergarten
The Greensboro school will begin a kindergarten program in September 1962 due to sufficient enrollment. Federalsburg and Denton kindergartens will continue with near full day two sessions. Ridgely’s four year program will not continue due to small enrollment. No other county centers have enough students.

Gloyd Heads Denton Lions For Coming Year
George Gloyd elected president of the Denton Lions Club for 1962 63 beginning July 1. Other officers named include DeFrees Brien Hugh Gordy Arthur Melvin Hugh Bailey Jack Quillen William Wunderlich and Herbert Martin with Thomas Campbell Ralph Horsey as two year director. Projects planned include two concrete picnic tables and support for Little League and Pony League. Funds will be raised this year by three chicken fries at Franklin and Fifth Streets on May 26 June 23 and July 21.
