Congress notes on housing and aid programs
The House defeated the administrations co operative housing plan 218 to 155 after a futile bid from President Truman. Senate had already rejected it 43 to 38. House approved most of the 1950 housing bill, sending it to conference. A compromise acreage bill for cotton and potatoes was passed and sent to the White House. Other items include an increase in CCC borrowing to 6.75 billion, military construction funding, FBI support with Hoover salary raise, and a Point 4 program push with 3.3 billion for aid to underdeveloped areas. The bill remains before lawmakers for consideration.
