August G. Detlof of the Keystone Automobile Club in Maryland urges parents to teach bike riders that traffic laws apply to them as to motorists. He notes bicycle rules require signals, right-side riding, safe parking, reporting accidents, and liability for negligent operation, with bans on hitching rides, tricks, or sidewalk riding unless allowed.

VA Office On Shore To Remain Open
Congressman Edward T. Miller was advised by the Veterans Administration that contact offices at Cambridge and Salisbury would not close this fiscal year ending June 30. Workload standards will close 72 offices this year rather than 321 and will guide future closures. East of the Mississippi will shut when monthly visits fall below 450 for four months. About 90 more offices may close in fiscal 1952. From Oct 1950 to Jan 1951 Cambridge averaged 434 visits and Salisbury 395.

Mozart Festival announced at University of Virginia
A Great Mozart Festival at the University of Virginia July 6 to 8 will open in Cabell Hall with Mozart Trio and conclude with a National Gallery Orchestra concert. Rising Employment Drives Maryland Defense Program Growth
Maryland saw an upswing in nonagricultural employment in February driven by industrial activity. 719,000 wage earners and salaries workers were employed, up 7,900 from January and 58,400 since February 1950. Manufacturing rose by 10,700, reaching 234,600, with transportation equipment up 6,900 aided by shipyard work and resolved labor disputes. Machine shops added to the gain, while nondurable goods also climbed.

The second annual Spelling Bee at Caroline High School determined three representatives for Del Marva in Salisbury. Entrants from Denton Tederalsboro Greensboro Henderson Preston Ridgely spelled for county honors. finalists Eleanor Perry Judy Petrovich and Dick Mathews will compete April 12 in Salisbury for prizes. Dick Mathews won as champion. Judy Petrovich was runner up.

The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company announces a new 1951 directory for Talbot and Caroline Counties with 15 000 copies printed up about 2000 more than the prior edition. Listings total nearly 11 000 telephones, Denton showing a 100 increase in 1950.

Ambulance Service Added by Denton Volunteer Fire Co
In 1910 the Denton Volunteer Fire Co added ambulance service using a Packard. The service completed over 1,060 trips to New York Baltimore Wilmington and other distant points. A new ambulance is now in use funded by donations and operating costs. A five man crew works under doctor or state police calls with a nurse available for patients.
