The Women’s Auxiliary held its monthly meeting on March 29 with an Easter parade and hat contest. Prizes were awarded for original and comical hats, oldest and second oldest hat, and judges from Greensboro and Marydel. A $100 donation to the Firemen’s annual drive was approved. plans include an April 14 bake in the firehouse and next meetings on April 26 and April 20 for the Caroline County Firemen’s Auxiliary.

The American Cancer Society sponsors film screenings across the county via the Health Department and County Cancer Committee. The Breast Cancer Self Examination film was shown at the Nursing Committee meeting led by Mrs. Frank Zeigler and at the Child Development Club by Mrs. Clara E. Todd. A Traitor Within was shown to the Preston area Homemakers Club, with Miss Smith and Mrs. Todd in attendance. Further films are available to interested county organizations.

Circuit Court jurors were drawn as the spring term opened in Caroline County with Judges Horney and Carter on the bench. The Caroline Choral Society, under Robert Hunt, will present its second annual concert April 15 at 3:00 P.M. in the Dentonia Theatre, featuring Mrs. Rue as accompanist and a program including Pergolesi’s Glory to God in the Highest. Headen Named to Maryland Legislative Council
Senator Layman J. Redden of Caroline County is named to The Legislative Council by George W. Della. Announcement came after the Senate adjourned April 2 ending the 90 day General Assembly session. Redden joins Edward Turner and Omar D. Crothers Jr. as new council members increasing Eastern Shore representation. The council, created in 1939, has twenty members and meets to study laws, propose amendments, and review Senate and House rules. Redden also serves as chairman of the Education Committee and sits on Judicial Proceedings, Executive Nominations, Aviation, Roads and Transportation, Banking, Insurance and Social Security committees.

Walsh Named To Vocational Rehabilitation Post On Shore
W Carroll Walsh of Easton Maryland is reassigned to the Vocational Rehabilitation Division and placed in charge of the Upper Eastern Shore overseeing Kent Queen Anne Caroline Talbot and Dorchester Counties. The unit offers counseling training placement and related services to disabled civilians and veterans with close ties to the Governors Committee for Employing the Physically Handicapped. Walsh will visit Caroline County about one day weekly.

Ridgely Man Found Dead In Car In Woods
Elmer Hoffman, 40, of Ridgely, was found dead in his car in a wooded area near Ridgely on Monday afternoon with a self-inflicted bullet wound. A revolver lay beside him. Dr. Dawson O. George said the fatal wound was self-inflicted. Hoffman worked for Messenger Oil Co of Federalsburg. his father in law H. M. Messenger heads the firm. His wife Florence Messenger chairs the Caroline County Red Cross. He leaves two daughters Joy, a Baltimore nurse, and Jean, a Towson State Teachers College student. Funeral was held Thursday at 2 PM.
