Denton Pastor Asked To Stay
The Rev. John E. French was invited to return for a fourth year as pastor of First Methodist Church of Denton at the fourth quarterly conference on March 25. Officials were elected and delegates named to the Peninsula annual conference. The pastor reported $30,000 raised, including funds for a new educational unit, chapel, heating system, and $2,000 for the Crusade for Christ. Three visiting missionaries prompted a hospital bed in Sidar Mission India and a $150 relief gift to China. The church reports 38 new members and plans a playground with outdoor fireplace, sliding board, and swings for youth work. Dr. Essell P. Thomas presided. three trustees were reelected for three years: Frank L. Nuttle, Benjamin F. Johnson, J. De Weese Carter.

Arbor Day Celebration Set for April 5 in Annapolis
Arbor Day will be celebrated in Maryland on April 5 with a cork oak tree planted and dedicated on the Capitol grounds at Annapolis by Gov. Herbert R. O'Conor. The tree donated by Crown Cork and Seal will end Conservation Week. The 2 30 p m ceremony is sponsored by state forest and education agencies and Maryland clubs with remarks by Mrs. Snyder and other officials. The Baltimore City College band will provide music.

Historic Kent Tour Is Revived for May Pilgrimage
Ten of Kent county's historic homes and gardens will open for inspection by Maryland Federated Garden Clubs members on a one day pilgrimage, the Chestertown Garden Club announces. Sites include Woodland Hall near Kennedyville dating to 1782, Washington College founded in 1782, The Abbey 1730, Bacchus home near the Chester River bridge, Byford Court gardens, Old St. Paul's Church near Fairlee from 1692, Providence Plantation in Quaker Neck, Drayton in Worton, Manor Shores on Chesapeake Bay dating to 1740, and Hinchingham on the Bay dating to 1652.

Fire destroys five Dover businesses in $135000 loss
A pan of boiling grease started a blaze in Dover that swept through five business establishments near Loockerman and Bradford streets injuring no one and forcing three women to flee in nightclothes. Fire Chief Thomas E. Baker estimated losses at 135000, with merchandise losses in a liquor store, a furniture shop, and an electrical appliance store. The blaze spread from the Carey restaurant to a liquor shop, a barber, and the Nap and Spence Furniture Co, prompting evacuations of several apartments. Dover’s prewar population was about 6000, rising during the war and drawing many watchers to the blaze.

The Civilian Production Administration barred start of most new commercial or industrial projects, allowing only already begun work to finish if materials were on site. Rock Hall Joins Mar Del League In Place Of Harrington
Harrington withdraws from the Mar Del baseball league and Rock Hall Maryland fills the berth. Pat Knight, league president, says Harrington cannot play Sunday league games and will field independent twilight and Saturday games. Rock Hall is to be managed by Bill Soller, a noted former Caroline County pitching ace and umpire who lost an arm in a hunting accident. A league meeting is set for Greensboro Sunday at 2 p.m. to adopt the season schedule ahead of May 5 opening.
