Local experience last year showed mixed conditions but general satisfaction with Bahamian labor, with changes to improve supervision and housing. school boys may be used if needed, and local youths will assist with harvests to support war-time food production.

S. Scott Beck Dies Former State Senator
S. Scott Beck former Comptroller of Customs from 1933 to 1939 and a Kent county Democratic power died Monday at Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital Chestertown. He was 61 and had suffered a 1937 paralytic stroke but remained active in law and civic work. Funeral was held Wednesday at Emmanuel Protestant Episcopal Church Chestertown with burial in Old St. Pauls cemetery. He was survived by his wife Mackey Perry a son a daughter and a sister.

Private Hackett Kinnamon of Goldsboro expresses thanks to The Denton Journal from Camp San Luis Obispo California in March 1944. He notes his Army service since October 20 1942 with basic at Camp Rucker maneuvers in Tennessee desert work near Camp Horn Arizona and at Camp San Luis Obispo. He earned one year good conduct, expert rifleman, and sharpshooter medals and hopes for a peaceful reunion with family.

Vandegrift of the Army Dental Corps was among the 400 Medical Department officers who graduated March 9 from the Medical Field Service School at Carlisle Barracks Pennsylvania. He completed a six week field course and will report to Camp Ellis Michigan as a Medical Replacement Center before a permanent assignment. Maryland Governor backs teachers bonus plan in 1915
Caroline county teachers will receive extra compensation totaling 24480 for the May to April school year under a law sponsored by Governor Herbert R. O'Conor. State funding covers 75 percent with additional state aid offset by prior teacher bonuses, shaping a record two-year Public School appropriation exceeding 20 million dollars. Governor says local governments and the State share responsibility, with 86 percent of funds from State Treasury enabling the plan.

The estate of the late J An drew Mitchell of Ridgely was sold at public auction in the courthouse for a total of 9750 dollars. Island to be testing ground for rare spices
Parson Island, a 200 acre farm tract in Eastern Bay, Queen Annes county, will serve as an outdoor laboratory for experimental growth of rare spices no longer readily available in the United States. Several Fires Reported This Week
Several fires were reported during the past week including a false alarm last Saturday. A chimney blaze at Harry Ritchie’s home prompted a second call from John Collins in Burrsville. Another chimney fire at Thomas Hall on Lincoln Street, and a woods fire north of the railroad in West Denton were sparked by a passing freight train. Pvt.
