Ray Carpenter Foresees Wider Postwar Electricity Use
Ray Carpenter of Maryland University predicted broader use of electrical appliances after the war at the sixth annual meeting of Choptank Electric Cooperative in Denton. He cited farms adopting TV sets, fluorescent lamps, attic exhaust fans, farm freezing units, soil sterilizers, egg coolers, insect control, hay driers, small feed grinders and electric shops to ease labor. The cooperative has grown from 161 to 3,026 members and from 2,864 to 2,440,904 kilowatt hours used, with lines expanding from 9 to 1,207 miles.
