Jacques Humbert the French commercial attaché addressed the Ridgely Chamber of Commerce at their regular dinner on March 5. Edward D. Sparks introduced him as flags framed by pine decor stood behind. Humbert discussed France’s need to earn dollars, Asia’s drain since 1950, and predicted communism fading in France. The motion praised his answers and urged world peace through understanding. Greensboro Milling Company Fire Destroys Mill
A fire of undetermined origin destroyed the Greensboro Milling Company early Sunday. The three story end basement mill, built near the Choptank River east of South Main Street, contained machinery, 450 bushels of grain and about four tons of feed. Grain owned by Enoch Baker was damaged. The mill, once run by Linwood Riddleberger and Sons, was recently purchased by Roy Medford of Henderson. Loss partly covered by insurance.

Ormond W. Downes 73 former cashier of the Peoples Bank of Denton died in Johns Hopkins Hospital Baltimore Saturday after a several week illness. He was son of late Philip W. Downes and Annie Hardcastle Downes of Denton. He worked as a bookkeeper at Denton National Bank before becoming cashier at Peoples Bank of Denton and later held a Washington government post. He is survived by his second wife Myrtle Coulbourne of Philadelphia and two daughters Marguerite Downes and Mrs Leroy Goodwin of Haddonfield New Jersey. His first wife Alice Jones of Cynwyd Pa preceded him. He leaves four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Funeral Home of J. Virgil Moore and Son Denton Tuesday at 2 pm with burial in Denton Cemetery.
