Marvin Smith of Federalsburg outlined the Caroline County Red Cross fund drive starting March 17 with a county quota of 1560. Sub chairmen were named for Denton, Federalsburg, Greensboro, Preston, Ridgely, Hillsboro, Goldsboro, Marydel, Henderson and Burrisville, with varied local quotas. Smith noted the Red Cross ended its business tie with CIO and AFL a year ago.

Spare Stamp 11 for sugar set for April 1 validity
The Office of Price Administration announced Spare Stamp 11 in family ration books will be validated on April 1, 1947 for ten pounds of sugar to cover home use and canning. No special canning stamps will be issued in 1947. Stamp 11 remains valid through September 30, 1947 with possible reuse on July 1. Stamp 53 for five pounds expires March 31, 1947 with dealers' deposit deadline April 25, 1947.

Man Sentenced To Die In Assault Case
William Edward Cooper, 20, of Easton, was sentenced to death by hanging in Cecil County Court after pleading guilty to a statutory assault on Nancy Trent Pugh, a 25 year old Easton nurse. The night of January 30 he hid in her car and made his presence known as she drove from Easton Hospital. she jumped from the car, fracturing a leg. Cooper had been discharged February 5 after Army service in Germany.
