Cattle Owners Must Move Fast To Get Indemnity
Maryland cattle owners under Plan B of brucellosis control must act quickly to qualify for federal indemnity of 25 dollars per grade animal and 50 dollars for purebreds. They must sign up for Plan A and test all herd animals before April 1, 1955, with November 1 deadline for initial testing and December 31 for slaughter of reactors. Dr Brueckener urged immediate contact with local representatives or vets to ensure eligibility and explained Plan B aims to reduce financial impact while gradually cleaning brucellosis from herds. Under Plan A all cattle must be tested, reactors slaughtered, calves not required to be vaccinated, though vaccination is voluntary and beneficial.
