Shore Co op expands plans at Denton meeting
The Choptank Electric Cooperative outlined expansion plans at its Denton annual meeting. Manager Francis Yeoman announced a five acre West Denton site near the Choptank River bridge for a $60,000 general offices building. The cooperative, with 45 employees and nine trucks, aims to create a utilization department to help patrons maximize electric use. William J. Neal described capital credits retirement and shared the view that cooperative business reflects an American habit of collective effort. The by law amendment passed 588 to 22. The board elected Harry A. Moore president, Olin S. Davis vice president, and Harry H. Nuttle secretary treasurer. other directors include Olin Davis, Olint Davis, Howard Hall, Harry Keenan, Milton Markus, and Paul Widdowson. Visitors included Allyn Walters from the Information Service Division and Delaware Electric Cooperative officials.

Officers and loan committee members were announced with Smyth as president Allfather vice president Holsinger secretary treasurer and Jane B Schultz assistant secretary treasurer. Seven Shore Senators Oppose Chesapeake Bay Oyster Leasing Bill
Seven Eastern Shore and other lawmakers introduced a Senate measure to bar leasing of Chesapeake Bay oyster rocks by the Tidewater Fisheries Commission in response to a House proposal to lease the rocks to private parties. The sponsors are Shallcross Phoebus Travers George Balch Dulin Moe Allister. The commission clarified it does not seek leasing to a few, aiming instead to lease to small watermen currently licensed to dredge or tong oysters.

Two or more unknown burglars robbed Leander H. Thomas store and postoffice at Hobbs Maryland four miles east of Denton last Friday night. They stole a three foot square iron safe with stamps about 400 in cash and government bonds. They used axes crowbar and maul from the store to break the safe in a cemetery quarter mile away. The abandoned safe and tools were found by Ardly Clark Saturday morning. Investigating officers call it amateurs work. The inquiry is led by Sergt L Hopkins Thomas with aid from Corporal Gus Koste and Sheriff William E Andrew. The intruders also seized candy and cigarettes.

More than sixty members attended the Denton Chamber annual dinner at the Brick Hotel on February 27 and elected E. Theodore Orme president for 1947. Winfield T. Nichols became vice president with Edward Covell as secretary and Louis C. Butler as treasurer. Mrs. Mary Melvin was named to the Board of Directors, the first woman to hold office. Other directors include C. L. Stafford, John H. Emerson, Sam Mellits, and others.
