Rotary Club To Have Puppet Show

The Rotary Club of Denton announces its Fathers Sons and Daughters night on Tuesday March Sth. After dinner at the Brick Hotel Rotarians and guests will attend a puppet show at Caroline High School staged by Federalsburg High School pupils under arts and crafts instructor Walter Rau. Federalsburg principal Francis Holsinger will introduce the program. The public is invited to attend at 7 30 in the C H S auditorium with no admission charge.

Costs Worry Choptank Coop at tenth annual meeting

Officials of the Choptank Electric Cooperative voiced concerns at the tenth annual meeting over rising wholesale power costs and construction expenses. Manager Francis E. Yeoman said a generating plant might be needed as nearby counties secure cheaper current, while treasurer Harry H. Nuttle cited loan repayments and a $492,000 line project funding. Farm Journal’s Frank Watts urged keeping youths on farms via electrification, noting democracy’s future hinges on rural opportunity. Directors reelected were Moore, Davis, Nuttle, Hall, Widdowson, Keenan, and Malkus.

Spring Hog Show Sale March 17 on the Eastern Shore

The Eastern Shore Fat Hog Show and Sale will be at the Cattle Exchange in Denton on Wednesday March 17. F M Rogers County Agent chairman says 4H and FFA boys and girls from nine counties have hogs ready. Hogs from the fall show were praised by Armour and Company. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded. Hogs must arrive by Tuesday night March 16 for a 10 AM start.

The Denton Volunteer Fire Company reports four weeks of the annual Honorary Membership Drive raising 1987.50 from 400 honorary members. Eastern Shore Public Service Plans Partial Fuel Adjustment

The Eastern Shore Public Service Company proposes a fuel adjustment clause for residential heating and ordinary commercial schedules to share coal cost swings. It would raise kilowatt hour charges by about three tenths of a cent under current coal prices, adding roughly 82 000 dollars yearly revenue and about 33 600 dollars in taxes, with 48 400 dollars retained by the company.

Examination Announced For Rural Carrier At Denton Postoffice

The Civil Service Commission announces an exam for a rural carrier at Denton Maryland. Application deadline is March 18 1948. Salary for a standard 30 mile route is 2020 dollars yearly plus 20 dollars per mile over 30. Promotions follow a grade system with yearly increases and longer routes bring higher pay. Open to qualified citizens or those owing allegiance who reside in the post office territory for one year. Men and women may enter, sex may be requested in certification of eligibles.
