The Denton Chamber of Commerce held its annual dinner at the Brick Hotel on Thursday evening February 27. E. T. Orme presided with an invocation by Rev. T. J. Turkington, a treasurer’s report by Louis C. Butler, and a dominating committee report by Charles Hadaway. Officers were elected and guests addressed by H. Findley French of the Industrial Bureau and S. W. Hamell of the Baltimore Association of Commerce.

About 700 dancers including Miss Odessa White fled the National Guard Armory in Salisbury when a midnight blaze took hold. Fire officials said the fire started under the stage, spreading rapidly through the waxed floor. No deaths. White treated for shock and smoke inhalation. Loss estimated at 40,000 dollars. armory partly roofless, likely beyond repair.

The Herbert R. O Conor ferry joins Chesapeake Bay Ferry System with a trial run to Matapeake this week. Sandy Point Matapeake service remains unchanged while the commission tests the new vessel and plans 24 hour service by spring.
