New Theory of Earth's Origin by Latimer
Dr. Wendell Latimer of the University of California proposes a condensation from a cold cosmic cloud as the earths origin. He combines geological and astronomical ideas with thermodynamics to explain planetary formation, atmospheric development, and the emergence of water and mountains through radioactive heating and chemical reactions. He cites that about half the universe's solid matter has formed planets and stars, with the rest in cosmic clouds still evolving.

Northwestern Scientists Unravel Secrets of Sleep
Northwestern University researchers identify the brain stem as the key to sleep and wakefulness. Dr. H W Magoun reports wakefulness results from brain-stem activity. direct stimulation in sleeping animals induces wakefulness, while brain-stem destruction yields pathological sleep. Partners include Drs D B Lindsley and G Moruzzi.

Met Metallurgical Mounting Using Room Temperature Resin Denture Material
Denton L. Smith of the National Bureau of Standards develops a simple mounting method for metallurgical specimens using modified acrylic resin that sets under room pressure. The polymerization heat is controllable, enabling polishing and microscopic study without disturbing crystal structure. Ownership of Farmlands by Private Individuals Dominates U.S. farmland holdings with 85 percent ownership, corporations six, public six, and Indians three. Maryland Farm Front This Week on Wheat and Corn Loans
Farmers with 1950 crop wheat under government loan can now sell and repay, likely breaking even or turning a small profit. No. 3 garlicky wheat loans were $2.24 in warehouses. current prices around $2.48 to $2.50 yield about 24 cents per bushel in storage costs. Corn loans set at $1.61. farm sales at about $1.40 today exceed the loan plus costs, with prices rising. Soybeans under loan at $1.91 and $2.11 also show profits above loans. A PMA official, Jos H Blandford, notes two months to redeem wheat loans, longer for corn. Also, a department reorganization will place conservation programs under one county headquarters to improve efficiency.
