Red Cross Drives $2,728 in Caroline County Fund Push
The 1951 Red Cross Fund Drive opened in Caroline County with a $2,728 goal announced by county fund chairman Robert Holt. Local chairmen include Mrs. Clau del Wright Federalsburg and several others across the county with nationwide emphasis on wartime needs and a national goal of $85 million, up 27 percent.

Fire destroys Calvary Methodist Church in Milford
A blaze last Saturday at Calvary Methodist Church on Southeast Front Street caused about 100000 dollars in damage. Five volunteer fire companies from Milford and nearby towns fought the flames, which started in the basement after a banquet the prior night. Firefighters reported heavy smoke and heat. one Carlisle Fire Company member was treated for smoke inhalation. The origin remains under investigation with no definitive cause.

Driver 24 dies in Route 404 crash near Bridgeville
A 24 year old grocery clerk of Andersontown Maryland was killed when his car crashed on Route 404 seven miles west of Bridgeville while he slept at 1 40 a m He was thrown from the vehicle which struck two concrete abutments and fractured his skull The victim Melvin Otis Hayman of Anderson town managed meat departments at Acme stores He is survived by his parents a brother and several relatives Funeral services were held at the Concord Methodist Church with burial in the adjacent cemetery

Choptank Co op members Attend 13th Annual Meet
More than 850 friends and members of Choptank Electric Cooperative attended the 13th annual meeting in Denton on March 5. The program featured music by the Surlock High School band and dances by Stanley Suttons 4 H iers. Seven directors were reelected for one year. Executive Manager Clyde Ellis spoke on member ownership and participation. Manager F E Yeoman reviewed the year. as of January 1, 1951 there were 9200 members across nine Eastern Shore counties. Treasurer Harry Nuttle reported a sound financial position with loans repaid and a $150,000 advance payment. Door prizes were awarded, with the grand prize television set going to Edmond Neal of Federalsburg.

Windswept flames ripped through the Charles D Briddell Company plant in Crisfield destroying the two story brick factory. The loss exceeds half a million dollars with about 275 workers left jobless. Firefighters from Crisfield and nearby towns battled the blaze for under an hour after it began shortly before 3 am. Fire officials cited probable wiring as the cause and noted oils used in tempering metal contributed to the spread. The firm plans immediate rebuilding with partial insurance.
