Proclamation on July Fourth Bell Ringing in Caroline County

The Caroline County Commissioners declare that the anniversary of the Declaration of Independence be observed by tolling bells at 2 PM Eastern Daylight Time on July 4 in Caroline County. John W. Eveland, President, County Commissioners of Caroline County, signs the proclamation.

Bible School Closing Exercises Held Last Friday At Grace Church

Closing exercises of St. Luke's Vacation Bible School were held on Friday June 21 with classes displaying their progress from a nine day session. Recognition was given to those attaining perfect attendance as 107 of 177 enrolled were honored. The event coincides with the upcoming July 4 1963 anniversary of the birth of the nation and features a planned bell ringing at 2 PM EDT in Denton.

State Police Head Urges Caution About Fireworks

Maryland State Police Superintendent Col. Carey Jarman calls for caution amid high yearly injuries from illegal and indiscriminate fireworks. He notes permits required, federal bans on imports, and that homemade devices are illegal. Troopers will focus on enforcement during the July 4th period and cooperate with local police.

Caroline Homemakers Attend Women's Short Course Week

The 37th annual College Short Course for Women at Maryland University drew 1000 homemakers for a week of learning and fellowship. Attendees heard world renowned speakers, studied textiles, nutrition, home furnishings, and civil defense, and enjoyed dormitory life under the theme A Lifetime of Learning. Local Caroline County guests included Mrs. George Lowe and other area leaders. Notable speakers included Geert Van Beekhoff of the Netherlands, Dr. Ralph W. Sockman, and Dr. J. H. Furbay, with entertainment by the 327th Army Band and a concert by June 19 and 20 guided by Charles L. Taylor.

Crouses to celebrate 40th wedding anniversary open house

Mr and Mrs Clifton G Crouse of rural Queen Anne celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house at Camp Mardela near Denton on Saturday evening July 6 from 8 to 10 pm. Friends and relatives are invited. No gifts.

Post Office ZIP Code Number Is Announced

Denton residents will use ZIP Code 21629 for all mail effective nationwide July 1. Postmaster Carroll F Bright urged citizens to include the code in return addresses to speed dispatch and reduce errors. The system lets clerks identify destination at a glance, potentially saving up to 24 hours in delivery. Also, magistrate George W Clendaniel set new court hours: Tuesday 2 p.m. and Thursday 7:30 p.m. until further notice at his Denton offices.

State Trooper Activity In Caroline County Past Week

The State Police log details several crashes in Caroline County over the past week. Notable incidents include a June 23 collision on Route 312 near Ridgely involving a 1948 Dodge driven by Henry Irwin and a 1962 Cadillac driven by Bruno Nier with injuries and charges against Irwin. a June 24 backing incident in Greensboro damaging a C & P Tel Co truck. a June 20 bicycle collision on Liberty Road injuring Charles Korte with no charges. a June 20 left-turn collision on Route 331 at Preston between a 1947 International truck and a 1952 Oldsmobile with both vehicles written off and Butler charged for failing to yield. a June 23 crash on River Road near Helsinger Lane injuring John Frase and yielding reckless driving charges. a June 14 rear collision on Andersontown Road between a 1963 Chevrolet and a 1963 Pontiac. a June 20 single-vehicle crash on Route 404 west of Anderson town injuring Carl Schultz with reckless driving. and a June 19 rear-end collision on Route 311 in Marydel involving a 1961 Dodge and a 1955 Chevrolet with minimal damage and no charges.

Camp Mardela Hosts Junior High Camp Week Activities

Junior high boys and girls aged 13 to 14 gather at Camp Mardela for a week of study worship music recreation cook-outs and work projects led by Mr and Mrs Seth Baker and resource leader Rene Calderon from Quito Ecuador. Other counselors include Mr and Mrs Speicher A J Fletcher Robert Schall Lois Walbridge and Mary Ann Cober with Youth Group teams to follow next week led by Clyde Nafzinger and Mrs Norman Fike assisting. Wicomico 4 H members held their first camp at Camp Mardela last week.

Greensboro Lions Plan July 4 Celebration at Field

The Greensboro Lions Club hosts a July 4 event at Greensboro Athletic Field at 10:00 a.m. Activities include potato spoon race sack race 50 yard dash baseball throw penny scramble and dodgeball for ages 6 to 9 10 to 12 and 13 plus. Prizes will be awarded and participants should wear clothes suitable for slippery pig and greased pole stunts.
