Hastings Appointed Census Enumerator
Mr Grover Hastings of Greensboro has been named an Enumerator for Caroline County in the forthcoming Census of Business. He is a principal and mathematics teacher at Greensboro School and a Washington College and Columbia University graduate. The census aims to cover about three million retail wholesale and service trade establishments with forms distributed by 4 500 enumerators nationwide. New Public Law 671 enables five year interval censuses and concurrent surveys with manufacturing mining and transportation censuses.

The Denton Volunteer Fire Company thanks Dave Kay of Kay's Amusement Company and the local American Legion for a $70 donation to the ambulance fund. Proceeds from last Saturday's carnival will buy supplies and equipment to improve ambulance service. Motorists should stay 500 feet behind moving fire equipment and pull to the right and stop when ambulances or engines approach, per law. Do not pass a fire engine en route to a fire.

Old Wye Church Rededication Set for July 13
Old Wye Church at Wye Mills on the Eastern Shore of Maryland will rededicate on Wednesday July 13 at noon. After two years of restoration led by William G Perry the 1721 structure and the 1762 Vestry House have been rebuilt with colonial detail. Benefactor Arthur Emory Houghton Jr funded the work. Bishops and dignitaries will attend with dedication by Bishop William A Brown and sermon by Noble C Powell. The church will be open afterward with loudspeakers for overflow crowds and a luncheon served by Wye Parish ladies.

Rev Dr Allen Jerome Miller of Baltimore was elected bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Easton on the tenth ballot by 17 clergy and 31 lay votes at the diocese's eighty first annual convention. The Church of the Brethren opened its Annual Conference in Ocean Grove with Moderator Dr Paul H Bowman noting frontiers remain the same as in the past delegates heard on faith practice. Dr Charles C Ellis was named moderator for 1950 and officers for regional boards were elected. Welfare Caseload And Expenditures In May
Expenditures for the May public welfare program totaled 1,152,528 dollars, down 6.1 percent from April obligations as local departments trimmed costs. Old Age Assistance fell 3,000 dollars from April, with 37 fewer recipients, while 202 grants were cancelled and 182 new ones issued. Average grants slipped to 37.18 dollars from 337.32 in April, and Aid to Dependent Children dropped about 42,006 dollars as 609 fewer families received aid.
