Methodist Summer Camps Start Next Monday
Young people aged 15 to 23 from the Methodist Churches of the Peninsula Conference will attend two two week camps this June at the Methodist Camp near Centreville Maryland under the Peninsula Conference Board of Education. The program runs Monday June 19 through June 24 and June 26 through July 1. New cottages and washrooms welcome arrivals on July 19. An outdoor chapel with 160 seats overlooks the Chester River at the site once known as Bakers Wharf. Rev. Richard M. Green and Rev. George W. Goodley lead a staff of youth leaders and ministers. Activities include Bible study youth programs music missions craft swimming boating and athletics. A Galileean Service on Friday evening caps each week. The Senior Camp targets high school youth as part of a broader summer schedule for Juniors Intermediates Seniors Young Adults and church leaders. The facilities upgrades come from a $50 000 improvement program by the Peninsula Conference Board of Education.

Denton Man Involved in Choptank River Boat Mishap
James Merriken of Denton sustained a cut on the head in a motor boat accident on the Choptank River at Denton Sunday afternoon. He was piloting the outboard craft belonging to Willard Knotts, who rode as a passenger when a turn caused the boat to capsize. Knotts was thrown from the boat as friends nearby rushed to assist.

Armyworms Rampage Across Caroline County Crops
Armyworms (Cirphis unipuncta) spread through Caroline County from farm to farm starting June 1 in William Kent Sr.'s barley near Federalsburg. By June 12, about 100 farmers had sprayed wheat, barley, and corn, with toxaphene yielding excellent results while DDT dust was less effective. Parathion, now used in lower Shore counties, showed good control but raises safety concerns among farmers.
