Company H Promotions Announced Amid Training Plans
New officers and promotions in Company H of the 2nd Battalion 115th Infantry National Guard were revealed by First Sgt. Frederick Frank of Ridgeley at the Denton armory. The 40 man unit, with four commissioned officers, will depart for Camp Pickett Virginia in July for annual field training. Captain Rue, longtime commander since March 28, 1947, becomes adjutant to the Second Battalion staff. Lt. Teat is named commander. Several new lieutenants and non commissioned officers from Denton Ridgely and Marydel receive promotions as the unit reorganizes ahead of training.

Denton resident Burton T. Parker Jr. placed third in the American Legion Auxiliary essay contest Americanism a Study of Loyalty. Centreville High School students Erald Shea and Sarah Covington took first and second. Parker attended with his mother and unit presidents in Elkton for the June 8 luncheon. Mrs Towse gave Parker a gold medal. Marvin H. Smith nominated for Northeastern Shore District vice president at Elkton meeting with election to be held at summer convention caucus. Picnic at Gardland Lake marked Unit 4th birthday with hot dogs and a pleasant evening.

The Denton Boat Club formed at a Sunday meeting on the pier along the Choptank River to improve boating facilities and promote fellowship among enthusiasts. Officers include Douglas E. Mental Hygiene Society Sponsors Volunteer Service Plan Easton
Mrs. Roger Medford of Federalsburg will meet with Mental Hygiene Society of Maryland officials and 600 Eastern Shore groups on Wednesday June 28 at 2 PM in Easton Community Auditorium Building. They will form a temporary program for mental patients and aim for a permanent Community Council for volunteers in the fall. The pledge mirrors a state wide effort aiding 500 patients with trained volunteers and gifts. The Maryland Federation of Women's Clubs endorses and will cooperate in education and service efforts.
