Class Of 1925 Holds Reunion At Denton Community House
The Caroline high school class of 1925 held a 25th anniversary reunion last Saturday at the community house in Denton. Thirteen of the 23 members attended, plus two former teachers with spouses. Guests viewed a silver themed display including copies of The Carolinian, class photos from 1914 and 1915, and a complete directory of the 14 boys and 9 girls. John Corkran, Cascade Maryland, led the event as toast master and read letters from distant members Hugh Ramsdell and Joseph Long. Several attendees spoke of their postgraduation lives. others offered brief remarks.

Maryland Roads Commission Awards 17 Contracts in May
The State Roads Commission awarded 17 contracts in May totaling about three million dollars for highway and bridge work across Maryland. The largest job, 3.15 miles on a relocation of Route 5 in Prince George’s County, went to Rea Construction for 1.504 million dollars. Other contracts cover resurfacing, widening, and rehabilitation in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Caroline, Carroll, Frederick, Harford, St. Mary’s and Talbot counties, including 28 bridge repainting projects.

Truman Accepts Bid To Dedicate Baltimore Airport
President Truman will dedicate Baltimore’s $15 million Friendship International Airport on June 24. He will deliver a noon address before about 100,000 spectators as the giant field, four times LaGuardia and five times National, showcases new equipment by airlines and the armed forces. The airport, with a nearly two mile runway, serves the Baltimore Annapolis Washington region and includes a strict four mile runway safety zone.

Armyworms Invade Caroline County
Armyworms have damaged grain and corn across the lower Eastern Shore and are moving into Caroline County. Farmers should inspect fields immediately to stop an outbreak before swarming. Worms measure a quarter to an inch and a quarter, feeding at night from the base to the head. Daytime they curl under refuse or clods. Large acreages have been treated by airplane with insecticides such as DDT, parathion, and toxaphene. Parathion and DDT dusts at 30 to 40 pounds per acre. toxaphene in liquid form with water, plus a 20 percent toxaphene dust option. Poison bait using Paris green or sodium fluosilicate is also advised. Continued on page 12.

Postmaster General Jesse M Donaldson announces a 3-cent Boy Scouts commemorative stamp to be issued June 30 at Valley Forge on opening day of the National Jamboree. The brown rotary-printed stamp features three boys symbolizing Exploring Cub Scouting and Boy Scouting with the Statue of Liberty in the background and the Universal Badge. Miss Patsy Collins of Federalsburg High School earned the top award for her essay Managing Our Eastern Shore Forests. The competition included several Caroline County high schools after forestry lectures for tenth graders.
