Closing exercises for the Daily Vacation Bible School will be held tonight at 8 00 p m at the Church of the Brethren. Miss Phyllis Seese directs music and teachers guide each department. The public is invited to see what the children did in Bible School.
Caroline County ranked fourth for May with 2 922 pounds collected for overseas relief through the Church World Service Center at New Windsor. Local church drives in Denton Ridgely Federalsburg and Tuckahoe contributed, while Frederick led with 37 191 pounds. Nationwide shipments totaling 450 554 pounds valued at 328 263 went to Europe and Asia. The Maryland Delaware Council of Churches coordinates between local churches and the service.
Queenstown and Townsend pace the Bi-State Circuit with weekend wins. Queenstown edged Millington 7 to 5 as Ken Roberts bested Bobby Logan in a ten hit duel. Millington led early before the final rally.
The Board of Directors of The Peoples Bank of Denton declares a six percent dividend to stockholders of record as of June 15 payable on July 1 from current earnings for the first six months of the year. Checks will be mailed July 1 to stockholders at the last known address unless a change of address is notified before June 15.
Joseph G. Jarrell of Goldsboro graduated among the top twenty in the University of Delaware class of 228. He earned a chemistry degree with distinction and has accepted a research position with Hercules Powder Co. in Wilmington.
The Caroline Post 29 of the American Legion sponsors a junior Legion baseball team with holdovers from last year and new talent from Ridgely and Denton. Schedule runs from June 16 through July 14 with games at Denton Easton Chestertown Rising Sun under 2:30 p.m. start times. rain dates noted. Byron Nuttle and John Holland coach the team with A Russum Orme as general manager.
Farmers and canners are invited to a county wide labor meeting at Denton High School auditorium this Friday night July 11 at 8 40 p m DST Officials from Maryland Employment Service and Caroline County Farm Labor Cooperative Association will discuss labor issues for the coming summer and fall Prospective users should attend to share needs and tentative worker dates.
Camden-Wyoming tied for first in the Mardel League after a weekend where Chestertown and Felton stayed in the top division race. Rock Hall moved within reach, Denton fell 14 to 3 to Rock Hall, while Camden-Wyoming defeated Houston Libby 5 to 1 and Chestertown edged Greensboro 6 to 5 in a tight standings shuffle.

Denton Volunteer Fire Company received a new 240 hp Streamlined fire engine with 1500-watt lighting, 500 gpm pump, 786 gallon water tank, and 2500 feet of hose. Tests by Maryland Fire Underwriters Bureau satisfied, but older trucks need repair. A full hydrant and water-supply check will be reported within 30 days. Honorary membership drive continues to fund the purchase, with $2,450.50 raised this year from 527 members.
The two day Delmarva Chicken of Tomorrow Festival June 23 24 climaxes with a ball at Rehoboth Country Club honoring the Festival Queen. The event follows the Georgetown finals where 40 breeders compete for 7000 in A and P awards as visitors from across the United States arrive for tours and the pageant.
Mrs Frances Gratiot wife of Merle Gratiot who runs a carnival concession for the American Legion benefit was struck by lightning Monday evening on the carnival grounds. She was entering her trailer with one hand on the rail one foot on the step and the other on the ground when she was knocked down yet she continued her work at the carnival.
