Federalsburg-Denton Road link to be let this year

Bids will be let to extend the Federalsburg Denton Road to Hurlock Road this year. State Roads Commission plans a five mile paving section. A by pass around Federalsburg would be built with a Marshyhope Creek bridge, reducing town traffic and linking to Bridgeville Federalsburg road.

Greensboro Auxiliary Plans Carnival Work for the firefighters event with cake booth duties. The Woman's Auxiliary of the Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company held its regular meeting on May 29 appointing committees for June and early July carnival nights. The next meeting is set for June 19.

Alumni Day at State Teachers College in Salisbury

Alumni of the State Teachers College Salisbury gather for Alumni Day with events beginning at 11 a.m. including a Food Mart and food sale, a 2:15 p.m. registration, tea at 3 p.m., a 5:30 p.m. dinner, and an 7 p.m. induction ceremony followed by a 7:30 p.m. round table for 1950 and 1951 graduates and a night of dancing.

Denton Pastor Warns Finalists On Utopia

Reverend William R. Dudley of Pilgrim Holiness Church speaks at Caroline High School graduation in the high school auditorium on Sunday night. He denounces an age labeled Utopia as an atmosphere of no frontiers or horizons and urges defense of the nation on the home front against what he calls an internal insurrection by Communism. Also on stage were Pastor E. F. Sherry and Pastor T. J. Turkington. The high school glee club performed under Mrs. Walter Palmer Jr. Janet Hoffman sang The Lords Prayer.

Legion Carnival Opens Next Friday At Denton High Grounds

The Caroline Post No. 29 American Legion carnival runs June 13 to 23 on Denton High School grounds with rides games and nightly ground prizes. Special acts June 13 and June 18 feature Melvin Price and his Santa Fe Rangers. A 1000 pound steer grand prize is sponsored. tickets available from Legion members or at the carnival.

Bible School At First Church Starts June 16

The Daily Vacation Bible School of First Methodist Church will be held at the church June 16 27 with closing exercises on Sunday evening June 29. All children age two years and up are urged to attend.

Local Fire Auxiliary Met Last Week

The Den ton Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary met Thursday evening May 29 in the Firemen's Hall with 19 members present. They reported over 50 dollars net from the last supper, praised bake sales, plan a July 3 pie and cake sale, and discussed a building fund for a new kitchen, a memorial slab, and secret pals. Members were assigned birthdays and ads coverage, with goals set for the next five months.

Vacation Bible School At Grace Church

Two weeks of Daily Vacation Bible School at Grace Methodist Church run from June 16 to June 27. Classes 9 30 a m to 11 30 a m with registration on June 16. Miss Mattie Moore and Mrs Blake Brooks lead Primary, Mrs T J Turkington Intermediate. Children’s Day services at 11 a m on Sunday June 8.

State Democratic Convention Held in Baltimore

George P. Mahoney won the Senate nomination at the State Democratic Convention in the Emerson Hotel Baltimore. He was replaced as National Committeeman by Mayor D Alesandro of Baltimore City. Joseph H. George was defeated 105 to 45 for convention chairman. A Fletcher Sisk and others were named delegates to Chicago. The Christian Comrade Class of First Methodist Church meets Tuesday evening June 10 at Mrs. Reese Brown’s home with co-hostesses. Concerted Christian Comrade Class will meet Thursday afternoon June 12 at Mrs. Edith McWilliams’s home with Mrs. Ruth Collins assisting.

Rural Route Extension Affects Goldsboro Area

Congressman Edward T. Miller reports Rural Route No. 1 in Goldsboro will be extended about three-fourths of a mile along the road northeast toward Henderson to provide mail delivery for four families. The change takes effect June 16, 1952.

Weekend Crash Toll in Upper County Highlights Speed and Alcohol

Ten motor vehicle accidents in Upper Caroline County prompted a warning that speed and alcohol do not mix. Wm. L. Camper of Trappe was charged after a milk truck crash in Greensboro caused extensive damage including a broken telephone pole and store damage. fines were suspended. Other incidents near Greensboro involved Byron Poore, Smith Bilbrough, and Dick Gardner with injuries, while Vincent Laws fled a trial after a 70 mph report.

Social Security Rep to Visit Court House in Denton

A Social Security Administration representative will be at the Denton Court House on Monday at 11:00 a.m. to answer questions on Old Age and Survivors Insurance. Norman P. Foster of the Salisbury field office says many eligible workers miss benefits. Also, Maryland reports over 3.157 million dollars in sales taxes from tourists in 1951.

Rotary Club Holds Annual Ladies Night Denton Talbot outing

The Rotary Club of Denton hosted its annual Ladies Night at Talbot Country Club last Tuesday evening. A sumptuous meal was served and a strolling minstrel performed. Mack Sauer of Leesburg Ohio was the principal speaker, delivering an address full of witty remarks about the Rotarians present.

Rev Musser To Speak At Cedar Grove Pilgrim Holiness Church

A weekend service plan at Cedar Grove Pilgrim Holiness Church near Whiteleysburg Del invites community members to attend June 6 7 and 8. Rev Musser a former Irvins Chapel pastor and long time radio pastor will deliver sermons at 8 pm on weekdays and 10 am 230 pm and 730 pm on Sunday. The event aims to uplift the congregation and renew fellowship.

Women's Society at First Methodist elects new officers

At the WSCS meeting of First Methodist Church officers were elected to serve until June 1953: President Mrs. Oron Smith, Vice President Mrs. Reese Brown, Recording Secretary Miss A. May Thompson, Promotion Secretary Miss Edna Shipman, Missionary Education Secretary Mrs. John E. French, Treasurer Miss Susan Saulsbury, and others including circle leaders and co chairs for Circles 1 through 5. The society also reorganized into five circles with evening and afternoon meetings.
