Military drill and recruitment drive kicks off in county
Monday’s roll call and drill were held at the Armory grounds. Recruiters distributed posters and circulars for the drive starting this month. Privates promoted to Private First Class include Richard B. Maucere Arthur G. Porter William D. Fearins Glenn D. Fleming and Robert C. Smith. Parnell F. Legg departs June 6 for a 12 week Fort Knox training to learn camping cook skills. William T. K. Cropp leaves for Fort Meade June 6 for four weeks of mess supervision. Equipment arrivals include 22 cal rifles and ammunition though uniforms are pending. Two new enlistees are Linwood F. Laham and Walter A. Long.

115th Infantry Regiment Celebrates D-Day Anniversary
The 115th Infantry Regiment marks the eighth anniversary of its Normandy landings on D-Day with a Presidential Citation for gallantry at St Laurent sur Mer Normandy on 6 June 1944. Commanders and soldiers displayed courage and rapid, adaptive assault tactics under heavy fire to secure Longueville and envelop the town by dawn.
