New Army Weapons To Visit Denton Display

On Thursday June 12 a Denton display unit arrives with Army gear including 2½ ton and 4 ton trucks a 105mm howitzer recoilless 57mm shoulder cannon radios and sniper equipment. The sniper scope with infra red sights aided night spotting and Pacific war use. The 57mm single soldier cannon reportedly has recoil similar to a .22 rifle. The unit arrives at 8:00 PM to showcase the equipment.

Cereal Banquet Here Monday

A community banquet at the Community House on June 9 at 8 p m will introduce a new cereal for Europe’s hungry. Sponsored by local churches and civic groups, the event features a speaker from Church World Service Center and a Army film Seeds of Destiny, with no admission but an offering for cereal purchases.

Everngam wins midshipman award at Annapolis ceremony

Midshipman John L. Everngam Jr. received the Navy Varsity Award for his help on the Academy Soccer Team during a June 2 1947 ceremony in Tecumseh Court at the United States Naval Academy Annapolis Md Rear Admiral James L Holloway Jr Superintendent spoke to the midshipmen and families.

Felton Takes Mar-Del League Lead in Close Win

Felton moved atop the Mar-Del Circuit by beating Hardy 7 to 6 in a hard fought game. Denton surged into an 8rd place tie with Rock Hall after a 9 to 2 victory behind Hughes. Camden-Wyoming defeated Greensboro while Chestertown beat Houston 8 to 4 as Felton’s win tightened the pennant chase.

Local Horse Rusty Wins Jumping Honors at Maryland Show

Rusty, an eight year old Denton horse owned and ridden by R Lee Butler, captured trophies and blue ribbons at the Homestead Dairies horse show in Salisbury Maryland last Friday. Competing against War Krew, Maryland champion, Rusty won the Modified Olympics class and the Open Hunters and Jumpers class.

Methodist Youth Institute set for June at Wesley Junior College

The Annual Methodist Youth Summer Institute of the Wilmington and Easton Districts will be held at Wesley Junior College from June 16 to 22. Participants aged 15 to 17 will engage in worship, study, recreation, and fellowship under the theme We Test Our Lives By Thine. Courses cover Youth and Evangelism, Enriching the Spiritual Life, Why Is the Bible Important, and more. Rev. Ralph E. Proud will serve as Dean, with Rev. D. C. Broiler Federation Names Officers

The Del marva Broiler Federation met in Salisbury Maryland on Tuesday night and elected officers and directors to lead the group. Homer H. Pepper was chosen president Howard Abbott vice president and R Crawford Holland secretary treasurer. A board of directors from five industry groups includes E Peter Richardson John C Hammond Walter Spearin Richard Holland Lawrence Isaacs and others with Richard E Mai named executive secretary. Federation offices are on the second floor of the Downing Building on East Main Street in Salisbury.

Denton Rotary Plans Waterfront Cleanup at Brick Hotel

At Carville Fleetwood's suggestion the Den ton Recreational Association chairmen and the Rotary Club voted to meet Friday evening June 6 at 6 pm at the Brick Hotel. They will proceed to Williston Lake to clean the waterfront for swimming and instruction. Citizens are invited to join. bring brush hooks axes rakes hoes.

Usilton Appointed School Supervisor for Caroline County

At a May 27 Board of Education meeting, Fred G. Usilton Jr. was named High School Supervisor for Caroline County. A Chester town native, he is a 1929 Chester High School graduate, earned a MA from the University of Pennsylvania in 1934, and has held roles as teacher and principal at Caroline, Ridgely, and Preston High Schools. He sits on Maryland State Teachers Association committees and helped progress the Junior High School Program for the county. He is married to Patience Pyle and they will reside in Denton.

Denton Recreation Association hires Miss Welch and Mr. Swecker to lead a summer program running June 16 to August 9. They bring extensive coaching backgrounds from Caroline High and local areas, with registrations already topping 350 children for swimming, camping, field games, nature studies, and more.

Army Recruiting Mobile Unit Here This Week

A moving Army recruiting station touring the Eastern Shore of Maryland is stationed in Denton on Market Street side of the Courthouse Green. First Sergeant Alfred Harris leads the unit with assistants M Sgt Ralston Crutchman and S Sgt Arthur B Keiffer. They accept enlistments for the regular Army ages 17 to 35 for 18 months 2 years or 3 years with branch and theatre options. The unit's Denton period ends Friday evening June 7.
