Shortage of Teachers Hits Towson and State Schools
The article warns that teacher shortages threaten education as many educators leave for higher wages in war plants. Towson Normal School enrollments collapse to 200 from 1000, and high schools report eight vacancies with four in elementary grades. A state and local bonus program tries to retain teachers, but salaries remain low. Also covered is the Victory Farm Volunteers program recruiting in high schools, and Caroline High Commencement with several diplomas and awards.
