Shore Road Contracts Awarded
The State Roads Commission awarded three highway contracts on the Eastern Shore. George & Linch of Wilmington won the Salisbury Delmar road segment for two and a half miles. Eastern Highways Corporation of Baltimore received a 177 511 bid to rebuild Easton Preston Road in Caroline County. Waller Paving Co. of Salisbury won a 19 428 bid for surface treatment on a two mile Rehoboth to Pomoke stretch.

Funeral services for Folger McKinsey were held at 2 P.M. Wednesday at St. Margaret’s Protestant Episcopal Church near Annapolis with burial in the churchyard. McKinsey, 83, author of the municipal anthem Baltimore Our Baltimore and creator of The Sun column Good Morning under The Bentztown Bard pseudonym, died Saturday night at his Magothy River home. He wrote for The Sun for 42 years, with his last column appearing May 14, 1949, after illness prevented further work. He was a celebrated Maryland observer and storyteller who loved his state’s people, towns, and landscape.

Concord farmer Arterry Nichols dies at 77
Arterry Nichols longtime Concord resident and farmer died at his home Sunday evening at age 77 after prolonged illness. He was the last surviving child of John Edward and Henrietta Smith Nichols. He is survived by his widow Bessie E. Nichols. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 PM in Concord Methodist Church with Rev. Melvin Kay officiating. Interment followed in Concord Cemetery.
