Raymond A. Dudderar named Manager of the Easton Area Telephone Company by G Maxwell Armor Jr district commercial manager. A Maryland native, he has lived in Chestertown ten years, graduated from Washington College in 1942, starred in intramural sports and was All Maryland center in 1941. He served in the Marine Corps Pacific theater, discharged as First Lieutenant in 1945. He and Frances Harris have two children. He will live in Easton once a residence is found.

Ten day session of Boys State at Fort Meade sponsored by the American Legion concluded with participants from Caroline County. Denton youths Jim Voss Bill Smith and Ernest Blazejack held roles from city councils to state central committee. Smith won both city council and state senate seats. Voss served on the state central committee and Blazejack became a policeman and city council member.

Largest Balloons At Cambridge Aug 14
One of America’s most unusual outdoor entertainments will tour Cambridge Maryland on V J Day August 14 as Jean Gros Parade of giant gasless balloons appears in the 2nd Annual Victory Jamboree Parade. The line of march lasts about three hours with over 250 parade workers.

In a 14 inning duel Rock Hall beat Denton 2 to 1 as Carroll fanned 14 for Rock Hall and Taylor struck out 10 for Denton. Greensboro defeated Chestertown 5 to 1, and Hartly edged Felton 4 to 3. Camden Wyoming topped Houston 2 to 0. Next week Hartly plays Denton and other schedule notes loom.

Caroline county sent 94 pounds of shoes clothing and miscellaneous articles to the Church World Service Center at New Windsor Maryland in June part of 18 567 pounds from 23 Maryland counties. Truman Orders Draft Registration To Start August 30
President Truman directed all men 18 through 25 to register for the draft between August 30 and September 18. Registration will occur in stages by birth year, with a total estimated 9.5 million registrants across about 4,000 draft offices. The timing for actual inductions remains undecided, subject to Army needs and volunteer levels.

At the Denton Lions Club meeting on July 20 1948 President Ev erett Townsend announced the appointment of year long committees. Er nest Blazejak spoke of his trip to Boy’s State and 105 attendees with five from the Eastern Shore. The club also sponsors DDT spraying to reduce flies and mosquitoes and asks for public donations to defray costs.

Friday Night Teen Dances At Denton High School
Denton Recreation Association reports forty teens attended the regular Friday night dance at Denton High School, with weekly events planned for teens. Upcoming activities include Williston wiener roast and swimming night, Wednesday cartoons at the high school, ongoing Garland Lake swimming classes, and two overnight camps for boys on Monday the 26th and girls on Wednesday the 28th. A four goal shooting contest is set for July 29 at the high school from 1:30 to 4:00, as recreation enters its halfway point with about 170 on the roll and 155 attending.
