Two Additional Scholarships Awarded by Senator Redden
Senator Layman J. Redden announced two more Maryland college scholarships and one art school grant. James A. Kibler of Greensboro won a four year tuition scholarship to St John’s College Annapolis after graduating Greensboro High in 1941. Alan Richard of Henderson earned a one year tuition scholarship to the University of Maryland, having graduated Greensboro High in 1947 and finishing a year at the university while self employed and in the R Q T C with a reserve commission as Air Corps lieutenant. A four year tuition scholarship at The Maryland Institute of Baltimore was also announced for any applicant to pursue mechanical arts education. The institute offers Mt Royal Avenue Night School and Market Place Night School options. Charlotte Hall School’s vacancy remains open.

1100 4-Hers Expected At State Club Week
Approximately 1100 Maryland 4-Hers from 23 counties attend State Club Week at the University of Maryland. The twenty-ninth annual event runs August 6 to 11 with lectures demonstrations contests and exhibits. A highlight is the All-Star Pageant on August 10 plus a dress review with a trip to the National 4-H Club Congress in Chicago.

Mr and Mrs Harry Ritchey celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary with an Open House from 2 to 4 PM at their Denton home. Born 1879 in Bedford County PA, Ritchey moved to Maryland in 1893 and married Eva Mae Trice in 1901. They ran a Ridgely mercantile business, then farmed and sold vegetables and berry plants for 31 years at their present home. They have two daughters Hilda Fifield and Dawson Fearins, five granddaughters, and a grandson.

HH Returns From Camp Pickett Virginia June 1951
Company HH of the 115th Infantry Regiment US Army Infantry training at Camp Pickett Virginia marked the 5th postwar encampment. Pre-Inductees Extend Volunteer Window to July 31
Sergeant Joseph A. Adams of the Easton Army and Air Force Recruiting Station reports an extension to July 31 for pre-inductees to volunteer in the regular army or air force. The original final date was July 15 in the 30 day grace period after eligibility listing. Four men were enlisted in July from Easton. John H. Walley of Trappe joined the army for three years and is sent to Fort Meade. Air Force enlistees include John G. Marvel of Goldsboro, Frederick C. Jarrell of Greensboro, and Robert E. Clark of Denton, for four years each, headed to Sampson AFB for indoctrination.

Scouts Attend Camp Rodney in Northeast Maryland
Scouts from Tri County District at Rodney Scout Camps in Northeast Maryland totaled 28 this week with members from Troops 190 Eas ton 177 Easton 137 Federalsburg and 165 Denton plus Ship 190 Easton. Leadership by Holly Snow District Scout Executive Easton. Attendance rose to 361 from Del Mar V a Council last week and 353 this week with 9 from Troop 190 13 from Troop 137 and 8 from Troop 165. Activities included initiatory campfire aquacade nature hikes overnight hike rain storm swimming canoeing and a closing campfire. Darrell Furnish and John Dunlap of Troop 190 sang in Rodney Choir at Sunday chapel.
