Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary Celebrated in Ridgely

Mr and Mrs H Coursey Edwards of Ridgely hosted a dinner Sunday for Mr and Mrs Clarence Hollingsworth of Greensboro and Mrs Alvin Edwards of Ridgely in honor of Hollingsworths fiftieth wedding anniversary and Mrs Edwards birthday. Guests from several towns attended the celebration, with a three tier white iced cake and many gold gifts. Barabara and Dickie Edwards attended, and calls of congratulations continued into Monday at their Denton road home.

Bethlehem Postmaster Is Found Dead

James R. Christopher longtime Bethlehem postmaster was found shot to death in his smoke house on Thursday. Funeral services were held at Frampton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Strickland officiating. Burial followed in Linchester cemetery. Survived by wife Velma and four children, plus four siblings.

Shore Guard Units Set To Go To Camp

About 20 Maryland State Guard members from Caroline County and four other Eastern Shore companies join roughly 1,600 guardsmen for Camp Ritchie field training the first since 1942. The Fifth Battalion departs Denton Armory by truck July 28, via Matapeake ferry route to Western Maryland arriving about 2 p.m. Headquarters Detachment includes six officers led by Colonel Jones with Maj. His, Maj. Knotts, Capt. Renshaw, Lt. Gadd, and Lt. Blake. Companies A through D from Denton Easton Chestertown and Elkton travel together under Captains Richardson Morris Stenger Bounds.

Camden-Wyoming Replaces Bridgeville in Mar-Del League

Camden Wyoming AC took Bridgeville’s spot in the Mar-Del League last week as Stan Mikell’s club edged Rock Hall 6 to 5 in ten innings at Camden. Mears delivered the deciding single after Desmond’s double tied it in the ninth. Ken Pierce earned the win with 13 strikeouts as Camden-Wyoming notched its first victory.

Plan Gala Time At 4-H Club Week

More than 900 Maryland 4-H Club members are expected to register with county and home agents for the State 4-H Club Week at the University of Maryland College Park August 5 to 10. The 24th annual event features contests demonstrations assemblies and recreation with 23 counties represented. Entries close July 28 and registration begins Monday afternoon.

Hog Show And Sale Plans Organized At Denton Dinner

A Denton dinner meeting of 17 Eastern Shore agricultural leaders organized the first annual 4 H and FFA Fat Hog Show and Sale set for October 30 at the Cattle Exchange. Committee heads F M Rogers J Walter Eby and H W Beggs outlined promotion and judging methods with Beggs drawing on previous state experience.

O. E. Roberts Receives Presidential Citation

O E Roberts of Denton field director for the American Red Cross in World War II has been awarded a presidential citation for overseas humanitarian service. Basil O Conor and generals Brereton and O Donnell praise his sacrifices and skill while in Africa and Saipan. Postwar he joined E A Strout Realty as associate in this district.

Holiness Camp Opens July 26 With New Dormitory

The Eastern District Pilgrim Holiness Church camp meeting runs July 26 to August 4 at a grove near Denton with a new 28 room dormitory. Rev. H. D Dukes leads the district, joined by evangelists Robb French and R. G. Flexon. Dining chief Rev. William C. Beard expects to serve 10 000 meals. song leaders include Rev. Firemen Save Plant At Greensboro

Quick work by Greensboro Volunteer Fire Company saved the Cupid Ice Cream Company plant near the railroad station after a fire started from a hot exhaust pipe on an oil burning engine. Discovered at 2:45 am, firemen brought two lines on the blaze within minutes, drawing water from the Pet Milk Company nearby. Owner Jesse W. Porter said losses are covered by insurance.

Races at Cambridge Yacht Club This Weekend

Commodore Clarence E. Pink announced plans for three race series for the Hampton One-Design sloops in the Eastern Seaboard Championship. About fifty boats expected. T. Hughlett Henry Jr. will start the races with Henry Johnson overseeing officiating and timing. Admiral Richard E. Byrd plans to attend Sunday ceremonies at 2 15 p m to award the trophy after the Saturday races.

Child Nearly Drowned At Chambers Lake

Michael Balzer, 14 year old son of Mr and Mrs Charles Balzer of near Federalsburg, nearly drowned at Chambers Park lake Sunday afternoon. He wandered into shallow water and was found unconscious by a New York visitor. Leo Culhane gave first aid and Dr Frank Anderson treated him. By Monday morning Mrs Balzer reported full recovery.
