Mrs. Florence George Perry widow of John Wesley Perry of Denton celebrated her ninetieth birthday at her son in law and daughter's home with Grace Methodist Church members extending felicitations. Guests included her son Arthur Perry and family. she hails from Smyrna Delaware and is part of a notable longevity family with several siblings living in Maryland Virginia and Philadelphia. She lives independently, enjoys Bible reading, magazines, radio, and club activities, and has participated in Red Cross work.

Fourth Annual School for Maryland Assessing Officers Held
The Fourth Annual School for Maryland Assessing Officers took place at the University of Maryland July 11 to 14 under the State Department of Education the Maryland Association of Assessing Officers the State Tax Commission the National Association of Assessing Officers and the university. Assessors from Maryland counties and Baltimore City attended and certificates were awarded to those who completed the work satisfactorily. The theme was Advanced Assessment Practice with training in the new Maryland Assessors Manual. Teams worked on accuracy of assessment while motion pictures and slides depicted building types. Irvin Brumbaugh of Greensboro attended from this county.

State fiscal year 1949 ends with a small drop in June sales tax receipts as Comptroller James J. Lacy reports June collections of 2 285 069 dollars, down from May 2 322 375 and June 2 316 057. 11 month 1948 year totals 23 635 242, full 12 month 1949 totals 28 000 944. Original budget set at 18 400 000 per year as conservative due to novelty of levy.

Virginia moves to try David Acree a 26 year old Virginia Fisheries Commission deputy for the murder of Earl Nelson Sr Crisfield crabber on July 5 The action follows Virginia Attorney E Elmer Ames informing Governor Tuck that a special Accomac county grand jury will hear the case Ames also advised Maryland officials and Maryland investigators are pushed to continue their probe while witnesses are summoned to Crisfield for deposition and to revisit the shooting site with new boundary markers set by joint surveyors to determine which state has jurisdiction.

Large Number of Girls Attend School of Missions
Seventy five girls attended the School of Missions for Girls run by the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Peninsula Conference of the Methodist Church at a camp near Centreville Maryland from July 4 to 5. The session theme You and Our World featured dean Mrs Marguerite Snapp and co dean Mrs Bertha Jefferson with a staff including Mrs Frederick Pyke Mrs J A Reod and others. Special courses on Japan and Women of the Scripture drew most attendees who earned credits alongside activities such as swimming sports arts and drama. The camp offered spiritual services Morning Watches Vesper Services and Galilean Service with ten girls committing to full time Christian Service. Diplomas were awarded to five girls and Ideal Camper and Mascot awards announced. Elkton Methodist Church led in attendance with seven campers. Port Deposit had four. Attendance by district totaled Wilmington 33 Easton 13 Dover 23 Salisbury 6. Major improvements to the camp facility were completed including filling the swamp building a pavilion expanding swimming areas and new equipment.
