Norman H. Irwin is elected president of the Denton Lions Club for the coming year along with 1st vice president Winfield T. Nichols and 2nd vice president Tayloe Lewis. Harold Allfather becomes 3rd vice president with Hugh Ramsey as secretary and D Ralph Horsey as treasurer. Directors include Joe Ross and Emmett Hignutt. Committees cover Boys and Girls, Citizenship, Civic Improvement, Community Betterment, Education, Health, Safety, Light Conservation, Auditing, Attendance, By-Laws, Convention, Finance, Lions Education, Membership, Program, Publicity and more. Cub Scouts held their first Pack meeting on June 29 at First Methodist Church grounds. Dads and moms plus leaders enjoyed hot dogs cooked by the Cubs. Den groups staged sack races, clothespin relays, and a shoe race before awards and taps.

Denton Man Provides For Animals In His Will
Hans Peter Nielsen of Caroline County left two horses and four dogs to Dr. L C Holt with discretionary control over their fate including humane destruction if Holt cannot care for them. Nielsen, age 65, also left 500 each to Easton and Denton Red Cross chapters for the Denton Gray Ladies Junior Hospital Auxiliary. The remainder goes to Holt, with Everngam named if Holt fails to act.

Faston Man Fatally Hurt In Auto Crash
Joseph Jones, 28, of Easton, died after an automobile crash on Route 16 at Cabin Creek Monday afternoon. He was driving a car carrying six passengers. Jones died at Memorial Hospital Easton. Two others, Virginia Whitby of Easton and Charles Walls, 22, of Denton, were injured.

Kent and Sussex Fair Opens July 25 at Harrington
Plans are rapidly being completed for the annual Kent and Sussex Fair at Harrington. The fair will open on the night of July 25 and run day and night for the rest of the week. It is the only fair in Delaware and the largest on the Delmarva Peninsula, drawing patrons from a wide area and serving as a major annual entertainment.

Greensboro Firemen Parade Draws Thousands In Citywide Event
Greensboro Friday evening staged a large firemen parade watched by several thousand. Nine bands marched in line making it one of the town's latest parades. Prizes awarded included best appearance to Harrington, most men in line to Harrington, longest distance with 15 or more men to Middletown, best band to Sharptown, second best to Caesar Rodney High School Band, and ladies auxiliary with most uniformed members to Greenwood.
