The Federal Communications Commission approved AT T long lines plan to build a 200 foot microwave relay tower at Ridgely near Chicken Ridge Road and Second Street. Construction begins late summer with operation expected by March 1957. two ground reflectors and a parabolic antenna will direct signals to Fairlee and Farmington for up to 1500 conversations, without home radio or TV interference.

Denton Woman Celebrates 97th Birthday at Open House
Mrs. Florence George Perry widow of John Wesley Perry celebrated her 97th birthday on Saturday July 7 at the home of her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs William F Wolf. Open House drew many local friends and relatives who brought gifts cards and flowers. Perry is noted as the oldest resident of the area with numerous visitors from Philadelphia Arlington Va Baltimore and Bridgeville among others. Continuous well wishes were extended by family and neighbors.

Grace Gelletly Receives 15 Year Service Emblem
Grace J Gelletly of Chesapeake and Potomac Tel of Maryland earned a 15 year service emblem in a necklace presented by W O Mills. She began in Denton as an operator on July 7 1941, volunteered at Aberdeen during wartime, then served as a service representative in Denton through 1951 and beyond. She held perfect attendance for twelve of her fifteen years and commented that the time has passed quickly.

Greensboro Lions staged a very successful Fourth of July with a Little League game Greensboro defeating Ridgely 5 to 4 at 9:30. Hundreds joined in field events races prizes and ice cream. A softball game Greensboro beat Henderson 11 to 2. Parade floats won by Boy Scouts of Greensboro and V FW. Fireworks closed the day as Lions co chairmen and community groups earned praise.
