Farm Bureau to select county Farm Queens during county picnics across Maryland with Miss Caroline County to be chosen at Garland Lake July 19. Contestants must be 16 to 18, unmarried, and live on at least three acres. Additional events include dog calling, rope pulling, radar demos, and baby contests for 1 to 6 year olds. Maryland ham and country fried chicken featured.

Caroline Guardsmen Receive New 105mm Weapons
Company H of the 115th Infantry Maryland National Guard in Caroline County has two 105 mm recoilless rifles mounted on a quarter-ton truck. They head to Indiantown Gap in Pennsylvania for camp on July 28, returning August 11. Denton armory safety rules require a two mile clearance to fire the weapons.

Sixty two Caroline County 4-H girls gathered at Camp Mardela on June 18 to spend the week. Leaders and staff organized cabins, crafts, singing, swimming, and nature study while a campfire, banquet, and candlelighting service punctuated the program. The Mohawk tribe won the week’s activities, and ten girls earned certificates of honorary membership alongside program folders and memories.

Denton Pony League Opens Season With Local Hopefuls
Denton’s Pony League begins with a 16 man squad formed by Joseph Scurto and Everett Townsend. The team, largely composed of former Little Leaguers, played its second game against Templeville at their park and will host home games at Caroline High School grounds. Phil Parsons pitched in a 3-2 loss, highlighted by Terry Dutton’s only home run, as Denton plans a full schedule despite not yet being an official Pony League entry.

The State Health Department has informed the Caroline County Health Department that sufficient poliomyelitis vaccine is now available for vaccination of persons from 3 months to 20 years, and pregnant women. Vaccinations can be obtained from family physicians or at the Health Department. A clinic is held each Thursday afternoon at the Denton Health Center from 2 to 4.

Polio season is here with several local cases reported. The vaccine may be given to well people at any time. National and state groups approve the procedure. Pregnant women face higher risk. Vaccine available at doctors offices. Anyone aged 1 to 40 and pregnant women may receive it in this area.
Annual Report From Talbot Caroline Mental Hygiene Clinic
The Talbot Caroline Mental Hygiene Clinic Advisory Board held its final June meeting as the clinic reported 131 patients seen in 7/1/55 to 6/30/56. Private psychiatry reduced total visits from 157, with 98 new referrals and 33 carried over. Most new referrals were children, from Talbot and Caroline counties, with 72 white and 22 Negro patients. The report highlights preventive work, education, and community planning, totaling 762 patient interviews and 49 clinic sessions. Dr. Elizabeth Winiarz noted a replacement for Sal Cammarata after he leaves for Ottawa. advisory board members from Talbot and Caroline counties participate monthly at Easton Memorial Hospital.

Caroline County Chapter of the American Red Cross held its annual meeting in Denton on June 28. Officers were elected, reports read, and Miss Lucy Johns outlined Red Cross Nursing Service. Donations totaled 3463.36 from the annual fund, with 1207.77 kept locally and 2435.59 sent to National HQ.
