Corn Curing and Drying Practices for Market Quality
The article explains that mature corn must be dried to prevent deterioration, as moisture raises spoilage risk and reduces market grade. Drying is faster in the field than in a crib, and harvest around 30 percent moisture by mid November allows clean collection. Airflow through the kernels is essential for moisture to exit the cobs.
Drying Brushes Best Practices for Drying
The article explains drying brushes by hanging or bristle down rather than on backs. Water pooling at bristle joints loosens fastenings, especially on wooden backs. It recommends hanging brushes, brooms, and flat brushes bristle down, using holes or screw eyes in handles to aid hanging.
Net earning power of individuals measured by 1946 value
Metropolitan Life Insurance statisticians show the present worth of future net earnings for a person at various ages. With lifetime expectancy rising, the capitalized value of a wage earner’s income grows at younger ages and declines after midlife, illustrating economic value of productive years. At age 30 a $2,500 annual earning yields a present value of $32,300, dropping to $26,000 at 35, $21,300 at 40, and $10,000 by age 55.

In memory of my dear brother George L Blades
In memory of my dear brother George L Blades who departed this life July 11 1944. Gone is the face we loved so dear silent is the voice we loved to hear too far away for sight or speech but not too far for thought to reach. Sweet to remember him who once was here and though absent is just as dear. Sadly missed by his sister Nora A Tubbs.
