The American Legion in Denton elected a full slate of officers led by Commander L Stevens Brown and first vice commander A Russum Orme. Others include Thomas Clayton Long adjutant Marvin H Smith Francis A Yeates chaplain and more. New officers will be installed in September with Smith and Knotts reelected.

Dover Saturday District Tournament Opens With Triple Header
The Delaware semi pro district tournament begins Saturday July 12 at Dover Ball Park with a triple header. Houston (Mar-Del) faces Odessa (V-League) at 2:00 pm, Felton (Mar-Del) vs Ellendale (Sussex) at 5:15 pm, and Hartly (Mar-Del) vs Milton (Sussex) at 8:30 pm.

American League Umpire Visits Shore League Staff Here
Bill McGowan, longtime American League umpire and head of McGowan's School for Umpires in Cocoa Florida, visited Denton on Tuesday July 8 1947. His former pupils the Eastern Shore League umpire staff welcomed him and a luncheon at Dukes Restaurant honored them with Master of Ceremonies Hanson Horsey. The gathering included many officials and relatives. McGowan praised the players and outlined chances for advancement, then toured ball parks with Kibler and the league staff looking at umpire work with plans for another visit soon.

Felton strengthened their Mar-Del League lead by taking two straight over the weekend. Felton beat Greensboro 9 2 and Denton 7 2 while Rock Hall and Houston split a twin bill Houston won 4 1 and Rock Hall 8 0 Rock Hall's Hartly game detailed a 12 inning 5 4 Hartly victory over Rock Hall with Vodvarka delivering 3 for 3 including a triple and driving in the tying and winning runs. Camden Wyoming routed Houston 9 4 as Jerry Desmond debuted for the visitors.

T. Wilson Cahall of Ridgely left Vienna July 4 by plane after a year with a school for children of Army officers. His itinerary includes Prague Brussels and London before Atlantic night flight from London July 16 to New York July 17. He is a former principal of Fed eralsburg High School and Caroline High School, now on leave from a Hagerstown high school.
