A Caroline High School class of ’55 graduate, he balanced work with academics, excelled in athletics and drama, and was praised by The Journal for his merit and quiet achievement.

Pilgrim Holiness Church Holds County Sunday School Parley
About 500 Sunday School superintendents and teachers from the Eastern District attended a convention at the Pilgrim Holiness campground. Rev. Joe Brown and his wife led the program with a survey of church Sunday School strengths and weaknesses. Daughters Carol Joy and Jo Anne contributed music and reading. banners honored Cambridge and Borman for attendance and travel. Gold ribbons went to Calvin Hudson and Paul Dieter for attendance gains. Five pastors reported 25 percent plus growth, with several others noted for increases. Nearby Maryland 4-H members Anita King and Jackie Sanders returned from Jackson's Mill June 2026 where a three-group conference enhanced leadership within 4-H clubs and county camps.

The Greensboro Fourth of July celebration drew large crowds with a parade a fishing contest races and a baseball game. Prizes totaling 100 were awarded to multiple entrants including the Greensboro High School band Karcher s Then and Now on the Choptank and several local floats and performers. A fireworks display closed the day and Lions Club with the Fire Company commended the planning committee for a well run event.

Denton Town Considers Limits On Large Dog Holdings
Health Department reports repeated complaints about residents keeping more than three or four dogs in Denton. Officials plan to urge the Board of Town Commissioners to pass an ordinance banning such dog collections within town limits. Existing law from February 8 1897 allows the town to kill dogs found running at large without muzzles after February 13 1897 and authorizes the town bailiff to enforce the ordinance.

Million Dollar High Voltage Line Finishes Near Denton Millington
Eastern Shore Public Service crews completed a major project between Millington and Denton including 26 miles of high tension line and a new Denton substation, named for Laverty Steele. The $900,000 buildout expands capacity to meet growing electric needs and may extend to Vienna in the future. The line, capable of 138 kilovolts, replaces earlier 69 kilovolt transmission and continues the region’s electric service growth.

Camping Time At Camp Todd Opens July 10
Girl Scout camping begins with the Peninsula Camp Toddเปิด on Sunday July 10 running to July 23 with two more periods from July 24 to August 6 and August 7 to August 20. The July 10 units are full but more registrants are sought for the remaining sessions. Scouting age 10 or older should apply to the Peninsula Girl Scout Council in Denton Maryland. Miss Dorothy Gamber directs the joint session, with Camp Todd on Silver Lake four miles south of Denton in a 100 acre site recently enlarged and improved. Meals in the lodge with unit cook-outs, and repairs from storm damage funded by Cookie Fund sales are noted.

Funeral services for Harry P. Cloud 30 Delaware Memorial Bridge patrolman killed on duty near the toll gate last Saturday were held at the William F. Jones Funeral Home in Claymont. He had served since Oct 1 1953 and died after being struck by a car driven by Mrs Nevenko Jascenko of Washington DC as he set out traffic cones near the toll lanes. State police said manslaughter charges may follow. skidmarks measured 73 feet and the victim was pronounced dead at Delaware Hospital. Cloud a WWII veteran lived on Ebright Road and was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and local police and fire organizations.
