Girl Staters Enjoy Week At Annapolis
The Girl Staters returned from Annapolis enthusiastic about the American Legion Auxiliary citizenship school Camp Free State. Frances Fisher chaired the group from Caroline County with sponsors from the Denton Rotary and Lions Clubs, the Denton Community Club, and Caroline Unit 29. Nineteen Mary land girls from junior classes attended sessions in Carvel Hall and the State House, learning government by active participation, including elections and campaigning. Frances Fisher was elected Judge of the Orphans Court.

Bible Salesman Gill Found Dead In Denton
William Thomas Gill fifty five of Philadelphia was found dead near the Nuttle Lumber Co in Denton at 6 30 p m last Saturday. A Bible salesman he had stayed at the Brick Hotel in Denton but was not registered. His left wrist bore a razor cut labeled as a self inflicted injury. Denton Deputy Sheriff I F Andrew Trooper E C Myers and Corp Gus Koste led the investigation. County medical examiner Dr Dawson O George ruled death by own action. Survivors include two sons Thomas and Robert a daughter Dorothy a stepson Raymond Beerhalter and his wife Dorothy Gill. He was a native of Woodbury Georgia and was buried in Jones Chapel Cemetery there.

The 1955 Caroline County 4-H Girls' Camp closed Friday June 24 after a candle lighting service led by Miss Dorothy Emerson Honorary Spirit of Camp Roberta Downs Spirit of Camp and four tribes led by staff and campers. The banquet featured performances by campers and centerpieces by Almyra Denny. Caroline County honors Charles F. Downs of Denton as statewide winner in the Maryland State Bar Association essay contest on Our Religious Freedom Under the Federal Constitution. Second Lieutenant Malcolm G. Dickie of Denton has arrived at Craig Air Force Base in Selma Alabama for ten weeks of Basic Instructor School training. Upon graduation he will teach basic single engine pilots at an Air Training Command base. Dickie entered aviation cadet training in 1953 and earned pilot wings in 1954 before service at Greenville AFB Mississippi. He is married to Beatrice Pinkine.
